G Scale US Steam Locomotive List

Hello there everyone. So I compiled EVERY single 45mm (g scale) USA prototype locomotive I could think of and made a list for others to use.
You just look up the loco online with the shown information.
If there are any I’m missing do let me know.

thx, Ben.

EDIT: Fixed file to work on this site.

Ben,

Thanks for your efforts and they will be well received, however a little note. This site does not like spaces in the titles of files. I use underscores where I want spaces or just capitalize the first letter of each word. Just edit the file name and edit your post to re-link to the new file.

Thanks, sorry. Im new here. ^^;

nice list… you might want to add a column for the name for all locos, not put it next to the Whyte nomenclature.

Aristocraft made a 2-8-2 Consolidation and a 2-8-2 Mikado also…

The MTH 4-8-8-4 and MTH 2-8-8-8-2 are shown as 1:29 scale in the PDF file list, however, I could not find that scale on the MTH web site.
The 4-8-8-4 is shown to be in the “Rail King One Gauge” product line that is defined as 1:32 scale.

The confusion may be attributed to what is “G” scale? In these examples, it could be 1:29 or 1:32 scale.

MTH examples in “G” (1:32) and “O” scales are shown below:

MTH 4-8-8-4 “G” gauge, Rail King One Gauge

The Aristocraft 2-8-0 C-16 is a copy of the DLW 2-8-0 at 1:24 scale.

Welcome: BroTraMan

Many on LSC = Large Scale Central " do not", “don’t” , “are appalled by” nicknames with improper spelling and punctuation and their milkshake is better than yours.

Good start. But likely only about 2/3s of the locomotives produced

For example. Accucraft did several 2-8-2. In 1:20 there is the K27,K28, K36, K37 and EBT #12 LGB/Aster Did a K28 and a WP&Y 2-8-2

I do not see any of the aster locomotives. or Kiss or KM1

Both Bachmann and Accucraft did a Heisler

Bachmann did both a side tank and saddle tank in 1:20.3 in addition to the 1:22.5 side tank

Not sure how detail you wish. For example Bachmann did two different Forneys and a variety of different K27s and C-19s

They also have a 4-4-0 and an older 2-4-2 tender loco.

Lots of others as well.

Stan

The Aristocraft 2-8-0 C16 listed as being a 1:29 copy of the DLW 1:24 model is/was actually still 1:24. AristoCraft owned the moulds. (Maybe actually owned & made in China).

AristoCraft did design and make a couple of new drives for the same 1:24 body.

Most of the Piko locos listed as 1:29 for the mainline prototypes, are actually the same 1:26 - 1:27 Gummi Scale LGB used for mainline stuff.

As Stan said. A good start but needs to be a bit more accurate.

The HLW “Heisler” Is more like a Dunkirk. Although it is a freelance model and so isn’t fully detailed with its drive components.

Indeed it is, Hartland’s own product description reads,

Based on a Dunkirk engine, this handsome loco is typical of those used in logging operations in heavily timbered regions of the U.S. and Canada. Hartland’s beefy logging locomotive features two power trucks and will pull dozens of fully loaded log cars. This workhorse is also very affordable.

LGB’s 2-4-0 in FRR (Chloe, olmana) 2 foot guage??

Also 2-4-0 in the 20230 style

All MTH engines are 1/32nd scale in their 1 Gauge line.

Challenger-grey and black schemes

Big Boy 4004, 4012 and 4014(can get oil tender with it)

Hudson

Daylight(some new versions are coming out soon)

All come with sound /smoke and new ones have DCC in addition to MTH’s DCS control and DC power. there is an app to run them with your phone also.
