Large Scale Central

G SCALE MAD website announced to close as of Nov 1

Bob , I need no lectures on the appropriateness of comments on this site .
I have been a member since 2006 , so I have got the picture .
Moreover , I am familiar with the usual muckrakers who hide behind the “free speech” ethic .
I stopped posting this year because my free speech was denied .
I still look in to see how friends are getting on , and shall continue to do so to keep track of those who decide to leave the site because because of "free speech " being used to make personal attacks .
By the usual muckrakers .

Happy New Tear

Mike,

The fact that this site is an open door to dialog on any subject (well almost any subject) and opinions from all points of view is what makes this sit interesting. I prefer open dialog over sterilized propaganda filtered by one or more individuals who remove that which does not fit in their particular view of the world.

So, if an honest question of integrity is ‘muck raking’, then I suppose I am a ‘muck raker’.

I agree Bob.

As for Miss Lisa, she skillfully avoided addressing most of the issues. Played the “female” card quite well.
Invited those with issues to address them via e-mail or PM. Then when one did precisely that, she responded that she “didn’t have time”.

And yes, this discussion is very much about trains as it is a model train site and it’s operation we are discussing.
There are thousands of topics posted here at LSC. If someone is not interested in a particular topic, I fail to see why they feel the need to criticize those who are interested in the discussion.

Mike,
I understand you’re quite the modeler. Unfortunately, you’ve decided not to share with us here. Too bad, as I certainly would enjoy seeing what you are doing.

As for any of the above…just my opinion and not intended as a lecture.
Happy New Year to you too, Mike.
Ralph

Ralph
Yes , I do a lot of modelling .
The last time I showed some I was told by the usual muckrakers to stick to modelling , and not partake of commenting on things I don’t understand
The last posting I made before semi retirement was a very much to the point statement along the lines of by what right may a deviant try to push his creed on the site .
The post was deleted in toto .

Mike,
If you still have my email, send me a few pictures of what you’re up to.
Or a web-site if you’re posting elsewhere.
Ralph

morning all

just a quck post as i am on holiday which you may know if you are on GSC. just to clarify i own my own company and work usually 60 hour week, i also have a family, so if i fail to have time to reply in detail to emails that are not related to GSC directly then please accept my apologies. (also i tend to see my emails on a blackberry and at times that is not easy when they are long and items are missed)

Garden railways are my hobby and as such the time i have (weather permitting) i enjoy them. please remember the speed in which this was set up after the demise of GSM, it was bloody quick to be frank.

re the female card - well i wondered when that would be mentioned - cool if i can play it, i just dont identify when i am doing it , that is for all the men out there.

i did say that if anyone has an issue with GSC then if you email me I will look into it and if you have done so you will have had a reply - even whilst on holiday. but not for general chit chat, i simply do not have time -sorry but i dont.

now as i thought we had moved on but we havent please can we get back to railways for pity sake ths conversation is getting boring now.

i apologise to those who dont like the way we set up GSC - despite the speed
i apologise to those who feel they are not welcome - i welcome all - and have said so on here a number of times
i apologise for anything else that you feel i need to that i have forgotten

please can we now move on, i will appear on here to have a look at what people do and i hope that you will all do the same on GSC - maybe we can all learn from each other in all things garden railway related.

happy new year from Frankfurt.

I hope this thing is done now? Lets shoot it and put it out of its misery OK?

Oh Boy yes Freshly starting!! LOL The Regal

Most join this site for the comraderie and family that the site inspires. Like all families, there are the inevitable squabbles and quarrels. Occasionally the ‘man of the house’ steps in and guides the discussion in a healthy, more ameniable direction. Sometimes ‘threats’ are implied, but as the owner is held in the highest respect, his words are always heeded, at least for a short time.

Many members of the site are owners or moderators on other forum sites. Apart from a notable exception from another site, who posted twice only, no one pushes or suports the agenda of the site/s they own/moderate.

If a member joins the site to promote interest/support in another forum then he will be treated with caution. If that said member simply joins the site for the benefits gained from this site, then he will be greeted with open arms. Of cause, he will be subject to the occasional eccentric behaviour common on the site. Many of the supposed ‘muck rakers’ have been around the block a few times and represent the knowledge base of this hobby. They are an invaluable resource and this site provides an avenue to channel this information.

There are those insulated individuals who come from ‘sheltered’ sites, who like to be spoonfed information, dot the “i’s” and cross the “t’s”. They feel comforted by the nice cosy, warm atmosphere inherent in a boring non-confrontationalist community. These people feel offended by the openess of this site, as it not the type of site they are accustomed to. Instead of conforming to the site, they criticise the behaviour of those who form the backbone of the site. There are then those who throw incendiary devices into the conversation and then exclude themselves from posting for many months, even years. When they return, there is no olive branch, simply more incendiaries.

If a person joins the site to enjoy the site for the treasure trove that it is, then they are welcomed openheartedly. If a member joins simply to support and sponsor their own self interests, then they will be treated with suspicion.

And there are those that just keep throwing incendiary devices but don’t exclude themselves from posting.
And there are those that I believe have a little male chauvinism they don’t want to own up to.
And there are those that have a wierd sense of humour that is not to everyones liking.
My take on all this can be looked at from another perspective-you have gone to a train open house, you have not been specifically invited but saw/heard it was on, you made some comments that the owner heard and did not appreciate so you were asked to leave, you left but felt entitled to voice some complaints in the public arena forums, you did and others have justly or unjustly agreed with you so you all agreed to not go back to that train open house again, others enjoyed themselves and kept going back, end of situation.
Life goes on, the world keeps turning and playing trains is still fun in my neck of the woods, this thread has been done to death, now where did I put that fire extinguisher?

Tim,
There are a lot of bitter and twisted people out there in the big wide World.
They need to vent their spleen now and then. Who are we to deny them that? It soon becomes obvious who they are.

God grant me the serenity to accept those things I cannot change,
The strength to change those that I can,
And the wisdom to bury the bodies of those that got in the way.

…and that is all I have to say about that…
