Large Scale Central

Future direction of Magazines

I have stopped buying all magazines…not worth the money…

I do not subscribe to any on the web…not worth the bother…

I do not have “Twit Vision”…not even worth my time to watch it.

I read a lot of good books, and do not go to the movies as it is a whole lot of crap...

I am happy and sleep well.

Can’t remember the last time I bought a mag, and rarely buy a paper.

I regularly read several mags and newspapers on line - even forked out for a subscription to one.

And no, my PC stays in the lounge room, never in the loo. That way, I never have to flush the cache!

I don’t take my desk top to bed, lounge chair, nor the bathroom !

And even if i’m lucky enough in the future to finally win a Laptop, best to put it on a hard-flat-surface, otherwise there is danger of things lighting up from overheating.

And there are (YES !) peoples who have more important things to focus on than reading some hobby articles acquired off that computer/internet thingie . . . Time better best working on their shortline empire !

Also pdf downloads are real chuggers and when ya find something you wish to digitally copy/pas’ , weeeell i have yet to figure out how you do that from a pdf !

I’ll see how fast the lowrated one takes to dwnld . . . . i want to see this huge layout wish me luck ! LOL

nite,
doug c

update: i only have A’reader6 so sent them a note asking to pls send the offered disc we’ll see if that makes it up here

I have 100Mbps in my office in Japan, and 1.3Mbps here in UK at the end of a long underground piece of wet string. since they ‘improved’ the service after 160m of line was stolen by travellers, I can’t even upload a 1.5Mb movie in less than three hours…and then it freezes…I’m seriously peeved.

Got my cd copy in the mail on the 23rd Previously within 24hrs of sending the request they sent a email stating package had been sent which is something not many businesses bother with these days (even in this age of quick 'net comm’s) Pretty quick (international) postal delivery as it was postmarked 19th !

Will only run thru my computer sys (I say that since one of their labels on the disc states DVD. When it first loads you have 3 folders Linux/Mac/PC Within the PC folder you have 3 other folder choices: advertiserskit / magazine issue/march2009 newsletter And within those folders two diff. sized pdf files A quick look indicates to me the smaller is the lower res version for older 'reader vers. !!?

The digital content is excellent, clear to read, the viewed content laid out like a glossy mag’ MRH has done a excellent job utilizing this format (although i did get into a loop re:error dialog box, after cliking on a ad within the magazine) Alas I still won’t be taking my desktop to the 'loo / bed or lvg. rm with me in the future to view this MRH offering !

And i first went skimming lookin’ for this layout prev. mentioned . . . . OH WOW what a layout " . . . view from the mezzanine …" on pg 2 of the article ---- WOW !! Reading the first para’ regards the reaction of the people who first view his layout live, is exactly my reaction to my first LSTS (EC’01) . . . . . . .

later,
doug c

p.s. is this the same race car driver who wrote that book on visiting various MR layouts 'cross the u.s.of a. ?

No problem just as long as you have a full version of Acrobat, better yet the Prof ver. since there could be a few extra wrinkles .

I have a mac and downloaded the hi-rez version. (We don’t need no stinkin’ instructions.) You can view it with Adobe Acrobat 7. None of the interactive content works.

Pretty much decided NOT to renew my G.R. mag subscription, with all the real time news/reviews, and other on internet, by the time you get the magazine its old news, and usually on here somewhere somebody, or someone has already reviewed the articles or posted something to keep you up to speed. Have noticed here within the last few months that if anything is said (usually the truth) about something or someone in certain sites, or magazines, all of a sudden the editors or someone in power seems to want to bash the truth of the reviewer which seems to me to be kind of bias reporting, or censorship of some type. So I will NOT renew my subscription at this time, and see if I can LIVE without it, which i am sure I can. Anyhow’s if there IS something I can just go out and purchase that issue. The Regal

Just a reminder live Friday nite chat on http://www.mogulus.com/crazytrainguyschannel every Friday nite come on in and chat live. Join in on the fun with myself, Bob Grosh from Floriday, J.C. from Witchita Ks. TJ and Noel from California and other as they join in. The Regal

I understand your point of view. I let my subscription go for nearly a year. But I have to ask. Where's the nearest place to Minatare to get a single issue of GR?

Same here as Jerry Hansen… I didn’t renew either. Its getting more of adds than anything else but, about anything new item that comes out has already been talked about here or on others INTERNET links. Also it getting to be a smaller maz. for the bucks now…
If something I want to look at that comes up I can alway go out to the hobby shop and get one.
I think there more information here and faster responce to just about anything on the internet.

Oh about 8 miles as the crow or 4 lane hiway takes you LOL

In Bayard? Just kidding! I was hoping you would be more specific about where in Scottsbluff?

Jack

Dropped my GR last year after subscribing from back in the '80’s.
There is not enough finescale or narrow gauge to keep me interested.
Narrow Gauge and Shortline is my mag now.
But rumors has it, they are in trouble and will just publish their specials 4 times a year now.

If you are into narrow gauge you might consider the Light Iron Digest. http://www.lightirondigest.com/about.htm
