Funny old world.

Today is my birthday . Right , got that outta the way , but , with my lovely Daughter-in-Law having to work as well as look after Martyn and me , she didn’t have time to do a Birthday Cake . So she went around the many local shops here and could not find a single one . Apparently , we’ve picked up one of those daft American “traditions” invented to make people spend money so all the cakes are Hallow bloody ween .

So , disappointed , she had to pop out to a shop for something she’d forgotten , and there , all on its lonesome on a shelf well away from the hallow bloody ween stuff , there was a cake . With a railway engine on . I kid you not , an edibubble loco coming out of an edible tunnel . So , along with other goodies I had another loco to add to my collection . What an odd coincidence .

I also received a superb kit of a gun tractor in 1/35 to haul a gun I’d made , and a few other bits and bobs , all very welcome , and which will keep me busy modelling for a while .

And , incidentally , and incendiarily , we have a real traditional day next week , November 5th when we celebrate with bonfires and fireworks the failed attempt by one Guido Fawkes to blow up our parliament , I forget which year but it was a long time ago , even before I wuz born . May be even before America wuz born .

Given the lot we have in residence in The Houses of Parliament right now , I think he ought to be resurrected to have another go .

cheers chaps ,

Mike

Congrats to D-in-Law for finding the cake. Corollary #231 to Murphy’s Law - when you stop looking for something you will immediately find it.

And RE: Mr Guy Fawkes and the bonfires. You should mention the ‘guy’ (actually, the ‘Guy Fawkes’) who gets torched in effigy on the bonfire. A salutary piece of psychology designed to show the masses what happens when you try to blow up your beloved leaders.

Quite right Pete , he is done to a turn , causing the population to wonder mightily if he was in fact a hero or just misguidoed .Tee hee .

Mike

Happy Birthday, Mike. Celebrate them all. Remember, the more birthdays that you have, the longer you live.

Hey Steve , I hadn’t thought of it that way .

I always thought the more birthdays you had , the older you were , or more stupid , or forgetful —did I tell you it was my birthday ?

Mike (I believe )

When you’re through with Fawkes in Old BLighty will you send him here? We have a bunch in Canberra that could do with a cracker of a day

Phil , it would be a pleasure , but we don’t do transportation any more . Otherwise we’d have sent our criminal politicians there .

Sorry .

I really wish we could help .

Mike

Steve , sorry , I should have acknowledged your birthday wishes .

Thanks ,

Mike

Happy birthday, Mike!

First, Happy Birthday Mike !!! Remember, remember the fifth of November… One of my favorite films “V” For Vendetta. And yes, I agree with some of the sentiment, send him here to clean up our political mess.

The year of Mr Fawkes attempt to blow up the House of Parliament and its contents, including the king and his retinue, was 1605.

tac ,

1605 , eh? I thought it odd that I hadn’t seen the news headlines . That’d do it .

Mike

Mike
Happy Birthday to you!

Of course…Nov 5th…fireworks. We spend 364 days of the year watching the kids are safe and on the 365th Nov 5th, we give 'em half a ton of gunpowder to play with…parenting eh?

Would not be so bad…but the bugger Fawkes failed in his job to blow up the Parliament and we celebrate it…

Happy Birthday Mike…

Best wishes on being another year old…(and deeper in debt…;))

Mike, Happy Birthday…

Gentlemen !!!

Thank you for your kind replies .

I only mentioned birthday to put the train cake into context , but it’s nice to get good wishes .

cheers , one and all ,

Mike

Happy Birthday to you.

TAC already knew it was 1605, so I’ll supply the bit of info that he was also known as Guido.

So, who would name a kid “Guy?” Seems rather generic to me. Perhaps like, “Durable, disposable, all-purpose child.”

Tom, put your glasses on - I already wrote that.
