Large Scale Central

Frt. Wharhouse

After taking to Richard Smith, this is show what we done for our new Frt. Warehouse that is going in front of the Eng. storage build at our set up area.
This will give us another good use for the area.

So to show Richard S. what we have done so far and after talking to him, think we will do the windows and doors after we get the building together and painted.

The Warehouse doors will be sliding doors and have to make them so you lift up on to top grove to get in and out for painting.

This is going to be more or less a 3-D building due to only have 8 inches space behind Track nbr 3.

Anyway Richard, We got it started.
This is the area it going in at. “Right behind that NW-2 on back of Track 3.”

This is the cut out so far but not showing the Whrs. floor with sliding door groves cut out.

Anyway Richard, it a start… and get on the other Bakers Acers as we talked later on. lol.

Heehee! Well Noel, you just motivate right along. Much quicker on the uptake than yours truly. That’s going to be a big improvement over the bare wall.

Here is what we got done today. ( Had to replace bad photo.)

Guess not enough room for a loading dock, so looks like it can come in closer to the rail by on inch and still have room for the brakeman walk and spot cars at the doors.

We got the sliding door in and works fine. Easy to lift up and out of the runners for painting.
Richard S. suggested… paint the building black before putting the siding on to show in some places a black line between the board sidings. " Hope that what he said… lol."
Anyway, spent 5 hr’s cutting siding boards to make ready to paint.
Darn this thing is heavy. Glad it’s 3-D and not a full size building.

Sept.02,2013
Got a little more done between the rain drops.
Cutting board and fitting them in one at a time with a Razor saw.

Sept. 3,2013
We glued down some heavy thick felt roofing paper for the roof, gives it a difference kind of look.
Got the building painted and trimmed. also got the lettering on the signs.

Just have to finish up the lights and a few details to install it and plug it in at the set up area.

Tk’s to Richard Smith for the help on first time doing signs… Neat trick and ours came out great. They look like they was painted on the boards.
Very happy with it.

Still have a few thing like the detail yet, some lights in and outside. Finish the sliding car doors detail, kind of like a harring bone style.

That’s going to make a great scenic backdrop for your trains Noel as well as a useful industry. Your usual fine work for sure.

Great addition, my friend!

It’s always amazing to me to watch the project go thru it’s steps towards completion. This building looks great to me and gives me ideas. Thanks for sharing.

What did you make the windows from?
I like the siding.

How big is it?

very cool.

That looks great Noel!
I really need to learn how to be patient and start building some stuff on my own.

Joe.
Windows are hand made by cutting out what size of the wind you want. then make a frame to fit snug.
You can cut any size you want, I just happen to like the sq. window on this project.

The windows have slot on all sides to fit a 1/2 Rabbet cage wire cut to fit and painted white. Then Richard Smith said to put a gloss pc. of one ply behind the wire. Look like a shinnies glass window but dark inside.
I use two screws to hold the back pc in so if ever want to light up the office I can just change it out with clear plastic.
The siding is over sizes but was fast to run off the saw using just redwood fence boards. They are all hand layed in place to fit the style I wanted.
Anyway tk’s for the post.
These are fun projects, but time consuming.

Richard… I seen on your Lumber Mill post that you are going to add a frt. shed with an open dock on the other side of it. .
Darn …I wish you let me get this done before you talk about and add on… hahhha.
Now that get me thinking again… So one of our guys in our train group came over today and yup. We added a open dock on to the end of the frit. shed plus a truck paved area on the end of it.
Now darn it…It went from 7 foot to 9 foot 4 inches… LoL

We has a heck of a time setting it in place for a test and trying to get around the set up post…
Hey … It at least is all in one piece to pickup and move if we have to.

We still have the over head crane to finish building. We just make up the “I” beams.

Think we are going to paint the redwood beams Orange and then rust them… lol.

Now darn it…It went from 7 foot to 9.4 inches… LoL

You know they say go big or go home Noel.

Great job, turned out real nice.

Great, Job;)

SWEET !!! Looks good Pap!

Tk’s Guys and Son… lol.

Have most of the working loading Crane finish except for the light that goes on it.

This spot 5 is going to be a good place to spot a Flat or Gondola car.

The door 1 is for Cold storage car spotting… Door 2,3,4, is Gen. frt. and can be use for Refer unload or loading also and be forklift down to cold storage room.

Looks great! It’ll be a nice addition.

Terry

Finished up most of the detail and lighting.
Overhead crane that we had to make a elect. cable raise for the Crane light, also this helps to keep the crane straight on the tracks.

Under side with lights on.

We added a Men of work sign with a blue lantern that swings out over the track when cars are being unloading.

Just beyond it, is the three way switch for building lights and Blue lantern.

Even the frt. sliding doors came out ok with the herring bone strip affects.

First there was the nuclear race, then the space race and now…the freight house add on race!

Really looks great Noel even if you did beat me to the moon.

Now set up in place and playing with a few scenes to see how it going to work.

Naaaaaaaaaaaa I didn’t beat you, No race, but did step in to a Luner space hole or something and now have shinnie stuff up and down the walk way. Moon dust? or Kat poo. lol.

Also doesn’t compare to your work… Think you should send the Mill down here to test it so I can take a yr. or so to see if I can do one like your amazing work. hehhehe
(http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/noelw/Frt.%20shed%20set%20up%20area/Richard%20Smith%20Mill..jpg)
It’s the right color too. lol

Everything was fine untill… Some Guy up above Calif. mention, able to unload flats and gondolas frt. with an open dock. Lol
Well we didn’t have any way to take care of that frt. So we added on and went from a 7 foot frt. shed to a 9 foot 4 inch building.
Then try to get it around the post on our set up area.

Then a little trim here and cut there and move this with extra help.
and done.

Now pooped out and think We’ll wait for us to get back to Bakers Acers Turn table Maint. build fronts with your ideas.
Besides can’t side track you with ideas until you have your Mill and Open dock frt. shed to get done. Lol.

Do I see a toggle switch? if so, for lights or siding?? gotta build one of these to mask my fence.
