Large Scale Central

Friday is 1:1 Video Day

Yep, finally got out there. Lots of action, lots of sunshine, lots of heat (91º F … yes, it’s a dry heat).

Editing starts while the Brazil - Holland game is on. But it will take a while.

BTW on the way East and coming back West the swing bridge at Sicamous was in operation. Lots of house boat traffic on Shuswap Lake.

Beautiful scenery Hans.

How long was that coal unit train headed up by CP 8731??? I didn’t count the cars, but most likely another one of the 152 variety.

Did not count them Hans but I remember thinking , when is this going to end.

They seem even longer when they are on an incline or when they have to slow down through the latex sprayer which is located on an incline.

There’s a long mixed manifest coming up, the cars just kept on coming and coming and coming. On that one I’ll have to count since I didn’t get the number of axles from the hot box detector report.

Due to inclement and unreasonably hot weather railfanning got moved to Monday. Cooler and really cool as far as trains went.

I just need to edit all the good stuff, starting with one of my most favourite locations.

Listen to the echo!

Thanks to you, H-J, I’m in a world of ****. I just blew one of HER Royal Doulton ladies off the nearby shelf trying out our new soundbar system with it cranked up to get the benefit of all your wonderful technology.

Oh dear, that will cost you.

BTW that fancy hotel is at Three Valley Gap http://www.3valley.com between Sicamous and Revelstoke. Part of the set up is “The Roundhouse” with a few RR items, the other item is the Antique Automobile Museum.

My apologies to mrs.tac, perhaps if you explain to her that you’ll need some re-training she may understand.

Finally getting around to more editing — SWMBO told me that one of the books she brought from the library was due back today, so I hurried up and returned it yesterday. No, she didn’t get to read it.

Anyway here’s a very long Mixed Merch from two weeks ago. The cars just kept coming.

Happy counting!

The tut-tut is the greeting from the engineer. And the story behind that is: Quite a few of the train crews know me from “along the ROW”, this one didn’t. He was on that EB coal empties. When they had to stop at Malakwa - a meet - he walked up to the crossing where I had set up and asked me if I was a railfan or a company spy.

Coming off Notch Hill with the coal empties all he could see was a Hi-Vis vest and some gizmo on a tripod in a spot where he didn’t expect it.

Have I mentioned that many CP employees are less than happy campers since “the Hunter” aka E.Hunter Harrison was appointed CEO and has been a giant PITA ever since?

He used to be in charge at CN, but they didn’t renew his contract and a giant sigh of relieve was heard from everyone at CN ( I have that from reliable source at different levels).

A long CN Mixed Merchandise train at the outflow of Kamloops lake into the Thompson. Next was the Walhachin Rd crossing.

Good and early on a fine day.

By chance I met one of my subscribers at the road crossing. Nope never met him before, that’s how it works.

I maxed out on Vimeo (again) but YouTube has plenty of space.

9800ft of Intermodal towards the end of the day, mind you if that train would have been an hour sooner the light would have been super, but c’est la vie …

Still hot and smoky in the Valley. I’ll be heading two valleys East tomorrow where it’s a tad cooler and they promise some cloud - makes for better video.

Should be plenty of traffic, the railways have been told to get their acts together and move last year’s grain harvest. Combine that with coal, oil, sulphur and Intermodal traffic … could make for a busy day.

Rail fanning has been postponed until tomorrow,

Weather looks good for GRR work next week, if it isn’t just more promises.

There’s only a 60% chance of showers. That means that there is a 40% chance that there will be sunshine. Ted Williams batted 400 in his last year. GET OUT THERE!
