Finally finished a few extended LGB 4-wheel coaches to run with a railcoach finished about a year or two ago. The ‘Cardinal’ beer car is a ‘refreshment’ car and was painted as such since I could not be bothered repainting the boxcar section of the car. The coaches are composed of the generic 4-wheel LGB coaches with extended underframes. The railtruck was also completed a year or two ago. Both locomotives require 10-foot minimum diameter curves.
Tim, that’s a great job! Many congrats. I particularly like the rail-loco - just right for the Ruritanian State Railway look!

Terry,
we have a steam railcoach in South Australia that is called the ‘coffee pot’. Railcoach concept is very, very loosely based on it. The railtruck is loosely based on an Austrian single driving axle, steam locomotive/boxcab body locomotive (a 0-2-2) .
Setting up the trailing truck on both locomotives, was a definite pain in the proverbial. Both locomotives constantly wanted to derail. It took some fiddling around but now runs superbly, although definite minimum 10-foot diameter curves. The boxcar body required me to provide ample side clearance on curves as the brakeman platform does arc quite widely.
A few more extended LGB coaches finally completed. The extended boxcar is still to be painted. Definately no awards for cinemaphotography!

Looks good Tim
Very nice work on the cars Tim. I enjoyed seeing that loco run too as I’ve only seen it in a catalog and never in person. Thus this is the first time I’ve seen one in operation. You have a beautiful setting for your RR too. Nice setup all around.
Richard,
it seems that I cannot decide between my interest in Colorado narrow-gauge and European narrow-gauge. I like long coaches with only two axles, rather than the short generic 2-axle LGB offering. I feel the coaches are enhanced with a bit of additional length. Currently, painting the extended ‘DB’ boxcar (white circus boxcar in the video), a five window dining coach, plus a six window coach and a six window combine/guard compartment car. Also, construction completed on a seven window three-axle coach and an eight window four-axle coach (that is four individual axles, with end axles swivelling and centre axles with lateral movement, allowing 10-foot minimum diameter curves).
Tim, good vids, and they reminded me of something… (going on old memory) but I remember on one of the forums someone building either an Austrian Mh class or Jugoslav 83 class steamer out of an Aristo C16 chassis…was it you by chance?
Garrett,
yes I do have the basics (a working locomotive) of a freelance 0-8-0 European locomotive. I built it as a freelance and surprisingly you came up with some photographs with an uncanny resemblance to my creation, even down to the four wheel tender. The locomotive still requires a lick of paint. I am finally catching up on projects previously built but never painted.
Due the noise of the Aristo drive, coupled with a drumming harmonic sound generated in the body shell, I coupled the loco to a LGB sound tender with the motor removed. The running characteristics of the two drives were not compatable and so the tender provides chuff sound plus additional power pickups. I will get back into this project this year, hopefully.
This is the white circus boxcar in the second video link. Definately freelance, but based in part on a prototypical car. Painted and decalled to run with my green freelance passenger consist. Started life as a LGB circus animal cage waggon, #4036, with additional panel at either end to lengthen the car.

Yeah, I am not crazy! (or maybe I am for remembering it).
Would you mind if I asked for a few as is now or in progress photos if you have them perchance? No hurry…
Another project finally finished. This is an ‘enclosed’ coach to go with my Chiemseebahn tram set. The coach is lengthened to five windows and includes a toilet cubicle.

Garrett,
this is how it looked back a year ago. Nothing more accomplished since. Photographs removed to conserve web space.
Thank you Tim…now to thicken the plot…
While I remember this loco now and my posts about it. In reference to my earlier post I remembered a different one. Another modeller is building one sans side tanks, more along the line of the two classes I mentioned.
Regardless a good looking model, and I look farward to your completion of this model!
Another two freelance European cars completed. First is a six window seating/refreshment car. Second is a combined guard/post office seating car. Both based on the generic 2-axle LGB starter set cars.
