Tests just completed shows with 11 older Bachmann 1:22.5 cars on a 4% grade, from a moderate speed, the locomotive will stop in a little over three feet.
More cautious, prototypical downgrade speeds will offer shorter stopping distances.
Keep takin a car off until she makes it.
You might have two or three left on the train.
I run 'em like I run all my engines.
If it won’t do the job, it gets parked.
This is…acceptable.
However, for switching, I intend to try one more thing.
Will report when done.

If I’m not mistaken Dave’s talking about downhill. Having read a few stories about run-away trains and talked to an engineer or two who experienced that “sensation” I’d say the K-27 behaves better than prototype.

Oh. OK.
Most people that will be buying the “K”, will likely just be running roundy roundy, so why is it so important…or is it a wise thing for it to have NON rolling qualities to prevent rolling off the shelves of collectors…
I just had to ask !!!!
It’s probably much more important to have lights that flash, and alternate RED-Green…twinkle at night along with smoke, cricket sounds and Engineer Bob farting, while the whistle screems on and off amid bell chimes at every magnet…!!!
Next we will get the twits asking where the ditch lights should go, and why they aren’t included. Of course the cab light won’t be bright enough, and fireman Willy isn’t yelling out in blue thunder…
BTW…that giant B’mann coupler looks like hell…
Good evening Fr. Fred. You seem to be all fit and chipper…
Ahhh, Warren;
You caught me in a bitching mood…!!!
Actually I think the “K” is a great model. I will never own one as it doesn’t fit in my roster.
I have all the locos I will ever need and they all are doing their jobs in fine style.
If I was to consider the purchase of the 2-8-2; I’d soon rip out the crap; convert to a simple r/c, battery setup, and convert to Kadee couplers.
I don’t do NOISE or flashing lights. I don’t operate at night, so I would only require white flags, if I ever was to designate a train as being “Extra”.
The stuff is put on the models to appeal to the average toy train person, and I wish them all well…
I already ripped the class lights apart.
12V GOR bulbs will fit just fine, thankyouverymuch.
Dave, thanks for posting your discoveries and solutions. Although this “mystery” loco is not something that would fit my layout, I’m sure that the folks who can use it will appreciate your very helpful info.

Fr. Fred
Have you ever heard of staying power??? That’s what keeps things on collectors’ shelves.
