Tomorrow is Saturday. In fact, every day from here on out will be a Saturday for me. Today I am retiring after fifty years in the aerospace world.

1966 – 1968 USAF ROTC

1968 – 1977 USAF active duty

1977 – 1982 Sperry Univac Defense Systems

1982 – 1984 Northrop Aircraft Advanced Projects

1984 – 1990 Unisys Airborne Systems

1990 – 2016 Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems

2016 - ??? Trains, Travel, and Grandkids

Over the past half-century I have worked on many platforms including the F-4, F-16, F-18, C-130, B-1, B2, X-30, X-47, F-117, F-22, F-23, and the F-35. Most of my career involved advanced development and flight testing on these aircraft. I have always said that my work involved long hours of sheer boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror. Now, the only thing I need to worry about crashing is my K-27.

Hopefully, now that I will have some spare time, I can get a few projects completed on the layout.

Until the next project strikes,

Bob

Good luck, Bob!

Congrats, Bob.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Good for you!

I hope you enjoy the after life!

Congratulations! Enjoy your retirement, Bob.

-Kevin.

Congrats Bob, you will find that you will be busier now than when you where working.

Don’t ask me how I know this.

Chuck

Congrats, Bob.

Write this on a piece of paper, put it in your pocket to be found sometime when you do the wash.

“How did I get all of this done while I was working?”

Congratulations, Bob… Retirement is great if you can keep busy… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Congratulations, Bob! Welcome to the “retired” status! I made the move 22 years ago and it was one of the best moves I ever made!! (as Stan well knows!)

Wow helluva career. Especially in what over the years has been a volatile industry job wise. Congratulations on retirement.

Congratulations! Good luck finding that spare time.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

SPARE TIME! Har, I thought that when I retired too. Now comes all the deferred maintenance on the house, travel, endless Honey-dos, and then maybe some little time for running trains. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Easier to prioritize time now. Paint the trim or play with the grandkids…hmm; take a cruise or play with trains…you get the picture. Congratulations Bob, I understand about 50 years. Me too. Have fun.

Fifty years of service in the Air Force and making our country’s fighter jets work…very admirable. Thank you, and good luck with retirement. I hope you keep us up-to-date on all your RR activities!

Congratulations, Bob!

Those are some pretty darn neat fighters, bombers, and experimental planes you worked on there. That musta been a blast!

Congrats Bob… Of Course, you know, now that you are retired, there won’t be time for you to do anything… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Well It may seem that way at first but after a couple of years you won’t know what day of the week it really is and find yourself taking a day off and it turns out to be Wednesday(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif) Congratulations on the retirement, sounds like it is a well earned rest.

Bob boy would I love to sit and talk to you for about a month straight. I love military aircraft. And you just posted a who’s who of US technical marvels

Ok I have to ask, I know we are not to talk about politics or religion and this is akin to both so can the F35 really hope to have any chance of replacing the A10 as the goto CAS platform just seems the F35 is a Fifth gen replacement for the F16 and has no hope in the low and slow world of CAS.

Oh and congrats. Enjoy your retirement you earned it.

Congrats and best wishes!

Congrats there Bob, you’ve now entered an elite club of not having to get up early or making lots of plans. But of course that little lady in your life will take care of all of that now. Have fun.
