Forum

I remember when this forum used to be a forum dedicated to trains. It is always the same old names posting regularly these days. What happened to the regulars who used to post on this site? Most likely bored with all the trifle we get these days!

Well, Tim; start a thread and set the pace, towards more “Railroad” content. It only takes one person to get a topic going.
In the mean time, a lot of us have become “Forum Friends” and seem to find discussing other topics leads to sharing thoughts on all sorts of topics…even leading to getting back to MODEL RAILROADING. We even chat about Garden Railroading too.

Having the common interest in railroading, generally, leads people to chat about all sorts of topics. With the friendships formed, we find solutions to our hobby challenges, here, when they face us.
So, Tim; what are you doing these days with your railroad ?
How are you meeting your challenges, and what is the latest one ?
What is the overall plan for your railroad; is it moving more towards “Operation”, or are you content with a railroad providing animation in your garden?
Have you had any satisfying experiences lately, that you would care to share with us ?

As for myself; I'm preparing for our annual "Invasion of Friends", when many friends from all over, come to Ottawa to share an extra long weekend, operating trains, and renewing great friendships. We have been making improvements as usual, to the railroad, in order to provide a relatively derailment free pike that is a pleasure to operate. The switchlists, are printed; the cars are ready to be placed in their appropriate locations. The batteries are charged.....the supply of distilled water is here for any live steam locos that visitors might bring.....

OK…there’s a topic for you…; Using LIVE STEAM LOCOS in an actual railway OPERATION…yes they can be used…they can actually do more than just running in circles on level track…

I hope you are having a good year, and your health is good. Thank you for your opening to a good topic.

Dang Tim, You had me worried there for a minute. Here I stay at this site and like the way Bob handles it, because it is train related. Then I find out that it might not be all train related topics.
So I checked the count. Now I just did a quick run through to see where I had been misled so some may have eluded my scan, but except for the (8) eight somewhat off topic post in this General Forum , where you talk about things not covered in other forum topics, ALL topics were train related.
By the way thats 30 per page ( I only looked at the 1st page of each forum). So with 22 other forum titles that’s 660 posted topics of which 8 are other than train related. Maybe the way I count is differant than your way, but the above says to me that this site is dedicated to trains. With a few extras.
Me, I choose NOT to read the unrelated , and feel that since others may not share choice they don’t hurt or bother me at all by reading an off topic post.

Now, since I rarely respond to this type of post please understand this is MY view. I will not be drawn into a debate as you are entitled to your view. I have simply stated my findings and gladly allow others to have their own opinions.

Hmmmm, I run another forum, and from time to time get similar content related complaints. My stock answer is this:

"ANY web forum is only what the PARTICIPANTS (Posters and Moderators) make it. No more, no less. If the atmosphere lends itself to idle friendly chatter, and/or free exchange of ideas - then that’s what you usually get. If the atmosphere is more formal, then you get mostly on topic conversation, but MUCH less of it. Like the difference between happy hour at a small neighborhood bar and a business luncheon at work.

So, your choices are: 1. POST what interests YOU. You might find others share the same passion. Yes your thread might get de-railed, or it might get ignored… BUT heaven knows, somebody might actually learn something new. -Or- 2. Sit in the corner and complain, but don’t be surprised if you get mistaken for a troll. -Or- 3. Start your own forum so you can set the rules to your liking."

And a few people actually sometimes get the point…

Personally, I find the more I LIKE and am ACCEPTED by the regulars, the more likely I am to share the GOOD stuff with them, as well as the more mundane. YMMV

Not much going on with the trains right now on the KVRwy, too hot and too much work. Planning the next Invasion, which has a thread in “Conventions, Shows and Clubs”. I’m sorry to disappoint anyone, but that is how life is moving. I try to comment on items that crack my interest, but time on the net is limited.

1st answer: be happy, that the trifles are friendly. (i know another forum, where i post less and less, because od the unfriendly surrounding.)

2nd answer: internet activities cost time. that time is not avaiable for modelling. thus other themes are written.

Gee, Tim, you used to post a lot more when we had the “Off Topic” forum. Are you lobbying for that to be brought back?
