Forum loading

Is it just me, or is it beacuse of the ice storm, but loading of the forums is seeming to take forever… And, no, I am not on dial-up…

Not the ice storm, its been like that for a while. Trying to find the exact cause, but it has to do with the ‘last read’ flags.

See the Message Read thread just below this one for the answer. It looks like we are getting to big for the software, again

It’s been getting progressively slower for a couple of months. Bob knows about it and says he nows why. Give him a couple of weeks and it will be back to it’s old rocket ship self.

  • Edit - Bob beat me to it.

I knew about the earlier thread, and it was loading OK for me, but, since the ““Ice storm””, it just seems to have dropped loading speed dramatically… I just wasn’t aware if it was the same situation and it finally caught up to me, or a new one that might have gotten created…

I guess things just slow down in the cold. Then there’s that shrinkage issue…

Global Warming

I think it’s that humongeous thread in the General Forum. Seems faster now than it was this afternoon though.

Earlier, it was so slow that I gave up and did something else.

The database was down for about an hour this morning. Now that it’s back up page loads are significantly faster. maybe it just needs a boot in the arse every once in a while

forums are loading a whole lot faster, now…
ty, Bob…

If I use IE 7, even the forum directory loads very quickly.
It still loads very slowly in Firefox 3.
I guess it is time to dump FF 3 and see if I can dig up a copy of FF 2.

Thanks Steve, I thought the older version was probably available at the Mozilla site somewhere. Ralph

I have 2.00.20 at work and 3.something at home. 3. haas some nice features, but it definitely has problems loading the style sheet that Bob uses. I get a plain text page displayed for a few seconds before the style is applied. Other than that, I don’t see much difference in page load times.

Mucho improvements, but then it could be just a change in the sun spots. Winter solstice, you know.
