Forney on portable steam layout

I got the portable steam table finished today. Just have to sand the edges and paint the top ect… Not perfect but for my use it should serve its purpose. Still doesnt beat running in the garden layout.
I also modified the forney by taking the front wheels off and making the front pilot area shorter. I added a wood bumper and re-attached the pilot. I like it much better without the front wheel. I also got the second servo instaled. Now I can cotrol the johnson bar. Here is a video.

Kewl!

So, how does the wife feel about having to park her car outside in the cold instead of in the nice warm garage?..:wink:

LOL shes not happy. Her comment was “what is that thing in the garage and where do I plan on putting it” I told her thats why its portable. She does not understand. LOL

My guess is that you and IT will be residing in the lean too…better hurry up and finish it…

Hmmm? Shawn is there enough over head clearance to lift it up and suspend it for her to park the car underneath?

Chas

Chas I thought about that but then I would not be able to open the garage door. The true test will be when I take it apart and put it back together. lol Im also looking at folding legs. You can get brackets and then just attached legs.

Comes from experience…I read a sign one time that said “When Mom ain’t happy, ain’t NOBODY happy”…you’d be surprised how true that is…

I think it’s nice but then I don’t have to please anyone but myself. Bummer.
I like what you did with your Forney, looks better than mine.

David thanks. It was easy to do. A little cutting and adding a piece of brass to hold the wood bumper to the cut off pilot. I also got a wood cab kit I started to put together. Just not sure if Im going to stain it or paint it black.

Looking good, Shawn. It’s nice to have a distinctive locomotive.

Shawn;
I would stain it first, then if you decided you would rather have it painted you can paint it but if you paint it first then you are stuck if you don’t like it.

Thanks David. Good idea. Im almost done with the cab. Just finishing the roof then off to the stain shop and maybe paint. We will see. If you get some free time you should you take a ride over this way and run some steam.

Shawn;
I would like that maybe you could guide me in the right direction on an RC for my Forney
I’d like to see how the wooden cab looks
