Formal Operations on the RGS

I guess you could call this formal since someone besides me were doing the operating. Bruce and Jean had a free poass to Longwood Gardens and killed 2 birds with one stone. Toured Longwood on Tuesday and stopped here this morning. I also invited Jim Kottkamp up to run and Jim got here bright and early and helped me set up. Still had a bit more to do after Bruce arrived, but after a tour of the layout, I left Bruce and Jim to figure it out the paper work.

Train 1 started in Delores and after building their train they set off. Here they arrived in Mancos, with one set out and one pick up. Bruce was the engineer on this hop and Jim was the conductor.

Hesperus was the next stop and had just one pick up and one set out. Here they are picking up the gon at Bergs.

The 2 cars on the front were at Goldings and had to be moved to clear the switch. They’ll be set back at Goldings when the gon is picked up.

Then it was on to Porter, which proved a bit challenging. 3 set outs with this train, then it turns on the wye and becomes Train 2 and heads back to Delores with work to do along the way. Halfway through the battery died in the C-19 and the K-27 took over and then the sky opened up. After taking refuge in the shed and no end in site, we called it a day.

It was a fun day for me since I got another perspective about the RR, watching Bruce and Jim work the layout. It was a good time despite the rain.

Thanks guys for coming up!

Pretty cool - we posted about the same time! I’m just wishing I had taken a picture of your weathered tank car BEFORE the rain got to it.

Great time - thanks for the invite and a chance to operate on the new layout.

Why did they do that? Were the birds not cooperating with getting their pictures taken?

Hmmm. Somehow, the thought of Bruce killing two birds just doesn’t comput. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Looks like you had fun. Did you run into any bottlenecks?

Bruce and Jean killed 2 birds with one stone. Ken said so which means it must be true! Give them credit for smoking aim !

Gee, I only killed one, with the windshield of my company van, at 75 miles per hour. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Since they were the only ones out there, not really.

The pleasure was all mine. Glad you guys could make it.

Ken really has a great operational railway which supported a very satisfying operating session. Every town has interesting switching options and plenty of buildings. Having the railway under a line of trees provides plenty of shade…nice option. This was the first operating session post construction, and there were very few problems - very impressive!

Thanks, Jim. That was one of the goals, fewer problems. Hopefully it’ll stay that way…(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Ok Ken when’s the first Canadian Invasion?(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Is the shed just out of view to the left? Things are really coming along. Looks great!

Yup, here’s a view of the same area when it was under construction…
