So here we have a pair of old beauties that need a new home. The Pacific was just irresistible when it came out, so I didn’t resist. It’s one of the first ones, but the wheel screws have been fixed and I have some spares! The Atlantic was purchased sight-unseen at Maurer’s auctions, and turned out to have a decent sound system in it.
(Click the images below for a fill-size pic so you can view all the rivets in glorious close-up technicolor.)
It was purchased before 1996 (when we moved to MD) as this next pic was taken in the old backyard, before I had a railroad!
The reason for the pic was that it became battery-powered and had a complete Aristo trackside receiver in the tender. Perfect fit - didn’t even have to cut anything. This photo graced a Garden Railways Magazine article about the conversion. Wiring diagrams, etc., are available. Still has sockets for the batteries in the cab under the roof.
Then the Atlantic came along as pilot engine, with its sound system, so I added an Aristo remote accessory panel (in its tender) so I could turn it on and off from the same transmitter. As the batteries and throttle were in the Pacific, I added a plug under the front pilot of the Pacific, and a socket on the tender of the Atlantic. Today, the Atlantic doesn’t run unless plugged in, but that could easily be reversed back to normal for track power.
But they do look good together:
The batteries were removed when it was obvious they were life-expired (4x9.6V NiMH, cost a pretty penny when installed.) The pacifc got its connections back to track pickups, and now works fine on track power.
I could provide the Train Engineer stuff if anyone wanted it, though the TX works my C-16 too, so that would have to be negotiated.
How about $250 for the pair? Shipping $ is going to be an issue, though I have a big sturdy Accu box that will probably take them.
