For Better or For Worse

Now, he DOES have a point, dear.

Good one.
For Better or Worse was a great cartoon. In later years the Dad had a Garden Railroad. I remember when some jerky neighborhood kids came over and stomped on it.

From what I understand the author’s husband is an avid Model Railroader and trains do show up in the comic every once in a while.

That’s where these pix were taken. He lives in North Bay, On.

Isn’t that the train you tipped over Ken?

That’s the one…

Good pix Ken. Thanks! What a bunch of kids we all is…

Sad to say; I don’t think that this nice railroad exists today.

Rod and Lynn Johnston split up, a few years ago, and the railroad, I understand has been lifted.

Lynn still does the strip. Rod, who was a dentist; retired and became heavily involved in the restoration of the old North Bay CPR station, which is a now a museum.

Sorry to hear about the split. It is a great memory!

…I just found out by Googling, that Rod is back “Fixing teeth”, in North Bay, Ontario…

Things went from better to worse, then to worse than worse then…?

Yea. It was sad when they broke up. Reading the strip has been a little bittersweet since then. Also, she’s mostly publishing the old strips, sometimes redrawn. If you remember, they had grandkids at one time, now they have small children.

Hmmm. It can’t be the same, trying to write a comic about happy family life after it has all fallen apart… One couldn’t fake it very successfully because of the pain and disappointment, to say nothing of the sadness, could one?
Maybe that’s why she’s just recycling the old stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if she never does a new cartoon. Sad but that’s often how it goes… Divorce is such a life changer…
