CP 8919 West, a long coal unit train (151 cars, 4 engines) passing under the Latex sprayer at Carlin on the way to Notch Hill. A meet at Squilax and another meet on the double track portion at Pritchard.

The Westbound track on the Notch Hill East approach has been reduced to 1%, the Eastbound track sports the original 2+% grade.

What exactly does the latex application do? The only thing I can think of is to seal the load from what? Water? to keep the dust down?

A few years back I was shooting at the bottom of the hill (Tappen), that’s about a mile before the Latex sprayer.
Oh dear, I sure learned why they spray!
