Part of the basement right of way is on shelving close to the basement ceiling and in areas that must always have access. I’ve always wanted to hide some of the basement plumbing and give it a little bit more of a railroad look. This has been at a stalemate for years. So I’ve been working on what I’m going to call “scenery plugs”. This first came about because someone on one of the sites or listservs said that Michael’s had a real sale going on after Christmas on small artificial Christmas Trees. It was or really is quite a sale., 70% off. 18 inch trees for a $1.19 and 24 inch trees for $1.39. I checked it out and bought 10 of them. Worked out well and went back and bought another 20. They sit on the shelves, hide the pipes and if I have a plumbing or electrical problem, they can be moved in 10 minutes.
The tree on the right is how they come. This how they look after they are trimmed, bent and shaped while watching football games. To hide the bottom of the trees,
I just completed building plywood boxes that sit on the shelves, in front of the trees and the track.
The plywood plugs just sit there and last night,
I started adding the foam (keep it light weight) to start shaping and scenicing. I got ideas of glueing, cutting and shaping the foam from one of those seminars at the train shows that sell the foam cutting knifes. Regular wood glue, shishkabob sticks to hold it together while the glue dries and we go from there. Looking for ideas.
