Fn3 figures?

Mornin’, All. Question here.

Yesterday my pal Broos and I were running a good half dozen Fn3 locos, from AccuCraft’s beautiful K27 to a raft of Bachmann Shays, Heislers and Climaxi - ALL of them with big, wide-open cabs.

Of them all, only one loco, my K27, had a crew - the now-defunct Fine folk character engineer and fireman…

The rest were ‘haunted’ trains…

So here’s the question - where can we now find convincing crew figures in Fn3 scale to bring our little trains to life? The things that come with Bachmann’s otherwise excellent models are real dollies, but not models that bear comparison with the loco they are intended to occupy.

I tried to contact http://www.railroadavenue.com/Products.html but have so far heard nothing back…

As for our veneered site owner’s products, just how do you obtain THEM?

TIA for any steers…

Terry, more to the point, when will they release a figure of you and Ig;-)))?? I could do with one each to keep Artur company at times when both of you are in the faraway lands… Best wishes from Tokyo, Zubi

I buy Railroad Ave. from Clem at Warrior Run, usually at the ECLSTS, but he will ship anywhere.

Good question, but there would be some folks who would buy them only to put in the bottom of an aquarium, or to shoot at.

Maybe both.

Best wishes from sunny you-know-where

$25 apiece? :O x 100

You gotta be kidding me!

Especially as I need six of each…

I didn’t pay THAT for some of my locos…

I use “Just Plain Folks” in my cabs. They are a little larger than the run-of-the-mill figures, albeit not exact models, but caricatures. And seem to fit the period with their beards and hats, etc. Good enough for me. And, no, I did not pay $25 for them as Warrior Run advertises. I bought them 10 years ago from Fine Folks for $3 to $6 apiece! Thankfully I bought enough to cover me for quite a while.

Call him if you can. I’m pretty sure I didn’t pay anywhere near $25 each for the few I’ve purchase.

Buy one of each, make molds, cast copies and learn to paint ???

Jon - what you are suggesting is illegal.

And thanks, but I can paint.

Would it be illegal if for your own use? It certainly would be if you were to sell or give them away.

Not if you don’t sell’em it’s not.

Terry:

Clem at Warrior Run has three 1:20 figure manufacturers listed on his website:

Spirito @ $9.00 (unpainted I believe)
RR Avenue @ $12.99 (painted)
Fine Folk @ $10.00 (unpainted) & $25.00 (painted)

Only the painted Fine Folk are $25.00.

I buy the unpainted figures and have lots of subtle colors of (mostly) FolkArt Acrylic Paint. I found FolkArt paint on sale at Michael’s this week for $0.89! It takes me around an hour to paint a figure, but I do this in several 10 minute sessions in order to let each color dry before adding the next. I actually have several going at a time to further shorten the cleanup involved.

AFAIK, Clem still has some stock of the Fine Folk, and there are several other on-line places around the country that still show stock.

Same with the RR Avenue ones. I use the already painted RR Avenue figures as the come, with only the occasional touch up or color change.

You should also look at Richard Kapuaala’s Poe O Honua website. See:

http://poe.o-honua.com/available.html

Many of Richard’s beautiful figures are based on actual historical Hawaiian railroad employees, but they are usable anywhere. Note that he has sculpted his engine crew members to actually fit in various Bachmann engines, with the actual engine they fit noted on the website, where the other manufacturers’ figures often require some cutting. Richard’s figures are mostly $10.00 unpainted, with prices ranging to well over $100 for the detailed and custom painted versions.

Hope this helps.

Jerry

My shortline has a program in place for hiring the handicapped. Engineers have all had one leg or the other amputated.
All jokes aside, Richard’s figures look great. Maybe we can convince Richard to do a Terry and Ig set

I’ll second the vote on Richard’s figures. His Sherman Pippin is great!

As are the other figures

Thanks, Guys, for all the advice and pointers…

I have looked enviously at some of Richard’s beautiful stuff over a good while, that’s for sure.

As for making them, well, I can paint, but making a figure that doesn’t end up looking like the Elephant Man on a really bad day could be a problem.

But a Terry and ig set would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cool!!

Terry check out the rr ave figures but from bridgeworks. The Regal

Thanks, Jerry - I did and they look pretty good to me!

I’ll get some sent to my pal in PDX, and collect them next time I’m over.

Best

SUpply Line has a few 1:20 figures, about $10 unpainted. I got some of the 1:24 one time to put on my layout, nice detail and well made.
