found this really interesting article on the history of Fn3…

. . Except for an absence of structures and plastic rolling stock, 1:20.3 scale appears to be the heir apparent to On3. It has surpassed the popularity of all narrow gauge scales except 1:48. . . .

terrible way to title a post

LoL I was thinking the same thing and clicked on it figuring Cale was ticked off about something!

I’m so alone in my scale, lol.

Dwayne, don't feel alone, join in. What is the height of your couplers above the rail head to the center line of the coupler?

Notice change to include 1:17.

maybe now, but some day, there may be a cool little article written about the Modern Father of 1:17 (you) and the mob that follows... :)

cale

And there still ain’t doodly available in 1:20.3 but the trains and some figures :stuck_out_tongue:
Alright if you scratchbuild structures and/or have just rocks and Dwarf Spruce, pretty tough if you want to include automobiles, or horses, or… just about any real world details.

Go 1:24, at least the only ‘compromise’ is a 6 measly inches in gauge, not everything else.

Yes, the tone of the article pissed me off. More of the same ‘Toy’ vs ‘Model’ bullshirt. “My way or it’s wrong”… Personally, I’d rather be ‘wrong’ than be a snobbish prig. I mean, geez, please don’t hurt yourself trying to pat yourselves on the back…

Going back to play with my scratchbuilt toys, now.

@ Ric… I don’t mind being the only person on planet earth playing in 17n30. I was thinking of starting a 17n30 only forum but with me being the only member it’s easier to have face to face conversations while I shave in front of the mirror each morning.

As for coupler height, I’ve settled on around the 2 foot mark (about 1-3/8" or 36mm)… but since I’ll be using L&Ps the height isn’t critical in keeping with the backwoods, shortline theme of the KLM.

@ Cale… It remains to be seen whether 17n30 will ever have have a following beyond me… lol.
