Large Scale Central

Floods

Between the records snow in Feb and now record rains for March the KMRR has been getting hit hard with floods. The ground cant soak all the water up. Operations have been suspended until things can dry out and the track rebalst. Cumberland Gorge flooded

Siding going into the Howell Mine. Earlier today the tracks were underwater.

Red Rock. I made this area because this end of the layout tends to hold water. I made a trench and filled with rock. Now all the water stays in this area rather then on the layout.

Was wondering about you while watching the news today, now get out there with some Pig Mats and sop that up you cry baby!

You might have a couple low spots. Maybe some drain age like in the real world would help.

It should all dry out this weekend. In the 80’s expected on this side of the Delaware.

The bridges are working eh?

are there fish in that lake?

I installed drainage systems on the RR after a 12 inch rainfall. They have worked well.
No rain forecast here for over a week. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be 85 degrees.
Ralph

I was up in Radder’s neck of the woods yesterday delivering to 2 nurseries and it poured rain all day. Both places I went too in Newtown and Watertown Ct were mudholes and almost got stuck in the second one.

Shawn,

Keep your Dunkirk dry. Thanks for bringing it, because of your work it is now on my short list.

We got it easy over here on the West side. Eastern CT had over 9 inches of rain and Rhode Island is a federal disaster area. I haven't looked specifically at the layout, but what I saw from the windows everything looks normal for after a big rain. I came home last night to several inches of water in the garage and wet carpet in the finished basement. None of this is unusual with 4 inches of rain and we know to keep things off the floor. I started a pump in the garage. Used a wet vac, then started the dehumidifier and fans in the basement. All should be well by the weekend.

Jon,

Did “Big Cut” drain or fill?

I didn’t venture out there to look. I gave a quick glance when driving by on the street last night to see if it caved in. It looked OK.

Rain will stop by mid day and warm up a bit. I plan to clean up the cut and foundation in preparation for laying block tomorrow evening. News at 10 PM.

It will be nice to see another HLW being used. You will be very happy with one. It was great to finally meet you.

Update: Once the rain stopped everything drained out and woke up this AM with no water. Now the sun is out and the next week temps are in the 60-70’s. Of course back to work today until monday. And the horrible shidt 10am to 8pm GRRRRR

I was wondering how you guys back east were handling all that rain, we are expecting rain overnight too but hopefully not like that!!!

Make notes, now is when you find all those drainage tweeks your layout needs.

It was storming so hard here in beautiful downtown Deer Park that the rain was falling sideways! I found another curve that needs a culvert. I’ve already put in a trestle that I found I needed last February.

I saw Charlton Heston trying to dry things out. Even he was stumped.

Sure looking forward to some of that Glow Ball War Ming.

The debil made me do it, I swear!

Dont worry Steve, if it rains enough, the culvert will take care of itself :open_mouth:

…all you’ll have to do is add the drain pipe and backfill it

Shawn… Looks like maybe your R.R.should "by the looks or your trackage being flooded and halting you operations. " apply for Federal Disaster ade. Thats got to be worth some Federal money…They give to the Auto Industries. So why not the R.R. laf.

News is early -

Deep Cut (Big Cut must be on some other RR) did just fine. No standing water even though I had created a dam down-grade with my excavation for roadbed. I worked in the trench back-filling around the foundation and it wasn’t even muddy. When I washed it off with a hose the water puddled. That’s not unexpected since the ground is so saturated.

It’s currently snowing on the California desert. It’s 36 so it’s not sticking but it’s doing it’s best!

your winter lasts very long. can’t you Gore it?
