Large Scale Central

Flanger Train Run

No snow for a few more months, although the monsoon rains have arrived.

In a break between thunderstorms, I brought out the new flanger to test it out on the layout.

Even though the flanger is 1:20.3 scale (Accucraft), I think it looks great with my 1:22.5 loco (KISS) and caboose (modified USA Trains).

As always, for larger images and more layout photos, click on the link in my signature.

Great Flanger. I like MW equipment and the Flanger is eye candy for sure - right up there with the Rotary Snow Plow!

Nice pix. I like that flanger…

Me too^^^^^

Great pictures - Thanks!

Thanks all.

Did someone say Rotary Snowplow? Sitting on the self waiting for snow:

Matt,

That’s the second time I’ve seen your dirt roads this morning. They look fantastic. Could you briefly describe (probably again) how you make them? Do you add something to them to stabilize the dirt or do they turn to mud when it rains? Thanks for the help.

I use wooden blocks to “grade” the roads. I simply drag them along smoothing out the road.

The big block is about 8 1/2" wide. The little one is about 6" wide.

I don’t have to add anything to the roads to stabilize them. The soil here is pretty hard. And typically very dry. When it rains, water wicks down quickly. One benefit is that I use the same soil to hold the track. I fill along the track and then wet it with a watering can. It turns rock hard and holds the track securely all summer long.

The roads will get a little messed up by heavy rains. But I just bring out the wood blocks and re-grade.

Thanks Matt.
