FLANGER OD to OG

This is a conversion that I did for my friend Will. Now that the piece is finished and faded he will do the weathering. Started simple enough… simply cover the railings with thin styrene to make Accucraft FLANGER OD look like FLANGER OG.

It was apparent the proportions were off and the railing stanchions would need to be moved. The tool box was the wrong shape & location and the lettering would need to be redone.

Media blasted, stanchions relocated and .005 brass sheet work complete.

Nice rebuild.

Great Rebuild. Thanks for posting the pics!

Very nice work once again Geoff. I noticed the double airlines at the front. Not being intimately familiar with the Colorado stuff, I’m making an assumption that this is for air control of the flanger blade position. Correct?

Great job!

Yes, correct….To pass over switches, grade crossings and the like, the blades of the flanger could be raised by the engineer. This was controlled with a valve operated from the locomotive. The target rotated to indicate the position of the blades. Not raising the blades in time resulted in damage to the rails and equipment.
