Fitting a 1/24 figure into a 1/24 vehicle

Ever try putting a driver into one of your vehicles? I’m working on one for my 1/24 scale pickup, and find that the interior is, apparently, much less accurate the exterior of the model. Getting a 1/24 scale figure to fit into it has required so much surgery it would make Dr. Frankenstein proud – except that he had better results.

I started with a figure from a kit called “Mechanic” by Fujimi. It has four figures which can be assembled into various poses. Rather than waste one on a character that would need major alterations, I made a silicone rubber mold and duplicated a set of parts for one figure.

My driver now has midget legs of unequal length. I also had to chop out portions of his torso and arms.

In addition, I repositioned his arms and head. I’m also thinking of giving him a hat.

I’m still working on him, so I don’t have pics yet.

I tried once and gave up on the idea. I managed to fit in a Preiser 1:24 female figure in a 1:24 pick up and she barely fit. It was like fitting me (at 6’3") in a 3 series wagon my wife brought home as a loaner while her X3 was in the shop.

I had to tilt the seat back at a 30 degree angle just to get in it. I felt like Speed Racer sitting in it. Some of those USA trains seated passenger figures are a better fit even if not scale correct. -Brian

HAHA! now try fitting a 1/22 figure into a 1/18 car, guess what its a perfect fit! Scale…its what fish have!

Sounds like what Mythbusters do to Buster the Crash Dummy!!!

Yea. That’s what you have to do

Explosives help.

More butchery was needed to get him to fit – I ended up having to cut off his left leg above the knee in order to clear the huge hinge on the inside of the door. Also had to move his left arm in at an unnatural angle, and gave up the idea of having him wave his arm out the side window.

I knew some changes would be required but I’m surprised at just how much the figure had to be altered to fit. I would have been better off just using the duplicate head, and sculpting the upper body from scratch. Most of him can’t really be seen anyway, I just need enough so it doesn’t look like the Invisible Man’s car.

The driver in my Trail Creek (remember them?) Whitcomb is cut off at the hips. The only way I could get him to fit. You dont really notice unless you look very closely.
