Large Scale Central

FIRST TRAIN on the brand new Allegheny Valley!

It still has a couple rough spots. It needs a bunch of landscaping, scenery and ballast… But we officially have an operational railroad!

I set out the first train mid-morning, fixed a couple low spots, and it’s been going nonstop for about 5 hours now.

Semi-aerial overview… I hate ladders, so don’t expect many more. Just a basic folded dogbone for all it’s meandering. It takes the train a bit over a minute to traverse the line at a fairly leisurely pace. Once I’m satisfied with the trackwork, I should be able to slow it down by about 1/3 more.

Some track level views

The end… or more precisely, just the beginning!

congrats to the maiden voyage!

Congrats. I bet it feels good to relaxe now and enjoy all that hard work. You did an awsome job. Are the boxcars LGB? I love those two axle cars.

LOOKING GOOD , the AVRR is on schedule now .

Dennis, It’s right on time… but yesterday’s train. LOL Shawn, the cars are Lehmann Toytrain (same company, but not quite LGB - they were cheaper) We had a distinguished visitor early this evening. Unfortunately, he and his two friends found my trackwork to be sub-par.

Neither Annie nor Clarabel wanted to stay on the rails (or coupled for that matter), and Thomas claims there is a dead spot near the trestle… I gave up after Annie dived down the embankment right after the girder bridge. ------ I’m thinking more weight, extra pick-ups and different couplers – maybe even drawbars OTOH, I got the 2017 to creep with 2 Kalamazoo coaches – took it almost 3 minutes to make the loop.

I LIKE IT!!! It great that you had all the structures ready to fill in the layout.

Mik The decals will be in the mail tomorrow. I did receive yours a few weeks back. Thanks

A big “Thumbs Up”
Most track needs a little tweakin when you first put it down
Ralph

They’re calling for rain for the next 4 days, so I’ll have to find a few inside projects… I can only think of 15 or 20 that need doing.

Congrats Mik, looks great, those Thomas coaches are really finiky, I swapped mine to regular trucks, Look forward to seeing how it comes along.

Great to see trains running

Yesterday not only marked the FIRST train on the newly built outdoor AV, it was the LAST run with Kimmee’s Kalamazoo coaches in their OLD paint scheme.
