Great spot for a layout. I look forward to seeing how the two contradicting themes eventually mesh together. I can certainly relate, as my rolling stock and scenery are across the spectrum. I just call it a “theme park”. 
I haven’t considered using cement before, but I just may try it at some point on a flat section of ground. Seems like a “solid” idea.
