Large Scale Central

First plow of the season

The Kittatinny Mt RR got their first plowable snow the other day. First attempts failed. Today the guys the plow out after getting a coating of snow last night. (I cheated I got most of the line cleared by hand and used the plow for clean up and last nights coating) I used my Big john with battery and then got the Forney live steam out. ( I have to put a knuckle coupker on front so can plow with the steamer. Anyway enjoy.

Shawn,

Great video! I would love to do this on my layout. But alas, not here in Southern California! Thanks for posting.

The snow sticks like glue to the plow.
Try putting a coat of auto wax on the business surfaces.
Nice video Shawn

Nice video. I love Snow & Steam. Hope I can do it this year too.

It’s a lot of fun, sitting here by my 'puter, watching some fool, out in the cold running a plough, roundy-roundy, than freezing my butt out there trying to do the same thing, and getting frustrated and cold…Thank you guys, for your efforts…

Oh Fred put on your Stanfield union suit, bring along an extra large thermos of hot rum or rye, get out there and run a coupla way freights and maybe a plow extra. Never know you might enjoy the time out in the brisk air.  Gotta be good to get some fresh air into the old lungs.

Fred Im willing to brave the weather so I can give you guys some entertainment. I do it for you guys. :) If it was not for fools like me how would you get your daily dose of trains in the winter.

I like the loggers view…I can see you working the throttle…you need some of them straps they hang down from the tunnel portals…(they call them deadmen or something like that???)
Btw…the plow needs a name and a #…it kinda looks like the 1st Penguin ever made…
Very nice!

Thanks Rooster. Im still working on the plow. Hopefully It will be completed by end of week. Never heard of them straps, you got any pictures. Might be something cool to add.

The old guys know what they are Shawn!!!

Old guy reply: The “straps” are called telltales. They are placed several car lengths before a tunnel or underpass. The purpose is to warn the brakemen of a low clearance ahead so they can get down flat on top of the car.

Unfortunately I’m not old enough to remember when brakemen scrambled around on top of cars to set and release brakes. I read tis someplace :frowning:

Yep…that’s it Telltales!!! They prevent Deadmen!..I told ya’ the old guys would know!
