Today I finalley had the chance to fire up my Aristo 0-4-0 steamer. I had it running most of the day in my garage. Im hooked on this live steam stuff. I am very happy with the aristo 0-4-0. It ran great. It takes a little getting use to it but overall very easy to operate. I good 15 -20 min run time pulling two cars and on a grade (garage slope) The only thing I found was the warm watter bath got cold halfway through run so I had to drain it and add more warm water, otherwise the fire was weak. Thats only because the garge was cold. The sound sytem is ok but I would much rather listen to the steam sound. For $499 from wholsesale I couldnt beat that price. I took a short video of it running. The only disadvantage to this engine is there is no way to control the throttle without the RC controler. At some point I would like to see where the throttle is and hopefully put some sort of attachment on it. That way if the electronics die I can start it up and control the speed manualy. I cant wait to test it out on the outdoor layout.
Great vid Shawn, bet ya can’t wait to get her out on the RR! Checked out your other vis as well, good job.
It’sa Rolls-Canardly!.. Rolls like a bat outta hell downhill, canardly (can’t hardly) make it up the other side!
Neat Shawn. Rip out the electric wiring, get rid of the batteries, and send me the just finished Climax now that your hooked on the steam.
I don’t think so Hollywood!!! You model 1:29, the Climax is being shipped to western Canada.

The steam engines give off a great smell. Of course my wife thinks differently.

Shawn, The 0-4-0 scales to your Hartland loco’s pretty nicely if you change to a C-16 cab. I think Mik did one too. Ralph

Pretty cool. Glad you got a good one.
I’m really wanting to fire my Shay. It’s been overt a year since it boiled any water. Had plans for Steam & Snow II, but Mother Nature kinda killed that.
I think there is a steam-up in Scranton in February. Perhaps we should go
Yes - it’s Scranton PA, Feb 19, 20 & 21

The dates for that steam up is President’s Day Weekend (February 19th, 20th & 21st, 2011)
Pennsylvania Garden Railway Society’s 14th Annual Winter Meet. I plan on going not sure what day. I think are club is holding our meeting with another club on that Sunday but at the meet. If weather permits they have trolley rides. http://ectma.org/ Jon if you go let me know what day, if you are on I84 by Port Jervis stop by - hopefully my RR will be back in service.
Great video, Jon!!! What’s the accompanying music called?

Shawn, good to see that yours works without fiddling and faffing around - many have not done, as you can see by reading on the Aristocraft forum.
I’ve not yet seen one over here in yUK - hardly surprising in view of the $1650 price…

Im no expert but I cant see how anyone has been having problems with the steam engine itself. (I have read all the issues on aristo) I can understand having problems with the electronics because they can be more sensitive but as for pressure issues you just have to make sure the engine is set in the center position otherwise it wont build up the steam (It takes some trial and error to get it down since you cant see the throttle) The other issue is halfway through the run you need to empty the warm water bath and add new. It makes a hudge difference in performance when the water gets cold. You have to just let the steam build up good before running and not rush it. I know a few others with this engine and have had no problems. I was lucky enough to have one show and go over the entire engine and how they work with me. That helps avoid the beginer problems. For a beginer it is a great engine especially for the price. Maybe not so over in the UK.

Thanks, but it’s not my video. Found it over at the other place. Posted by scottemcdonald - I think it’s his original work.
Shawn - I can’t do an overnight, but it’s within day-trip range. Do you know what the deal is with track time? Can you just bring a loco and hope to run?

I was told the larger layouts you have to sign up for a slot but the smaller loops you can just run. Either way bring a loco and you should be able to run. I plan on brining my Climax. They have electric track too. What day do you plan on going?
No plan yet. Need to look at the calendar a little closer and see if there are any conflicts. It would be Saturday or Sunday. I don’t get Monday off.

Shawn said:OK then. Let's make it tentative for Sunday the 20th. We can firm it up later, but if you like we could car-pool from your place. I don't think we'll be running on your track though. Now saying there's more coming on the weekend after this mess is done.Jon Radder said:I work wed through saterday and off Sun through tue every week. Im leaning more towards Sunday.
