Large Scale Central

First ever video of the CVSRy

In two parts. Part one begins as the railroad transitions to the long 4% grade to Pine Summit. Shot from the second flat car behind Porter #2, the video continues around the new grade at Coal Dump Curve, through the stone wall at Indian Hill and into Deep Cut and the dead end tunnel. From there we back down the wye, past Walk Landing and to the end of the tail at Nothville.

Part two begins at Northville, heading down grade to Walk Crossing and Indian Hill Junction. Then we cross the long bridge to the new grade at Coal Dump Curve, follow the elevated roadbed across the West Escape Canyon and on to the Indoor division shoving a caboose across Escape Canyon on the East Bridge. After dropping the caboose in the yard we run around the balloon track to reverse the train, stopping on the East Escape’ bridge just short of the Outdoor division point.

I love these ride-along videos. Nice ride, Jon.
I made one of mine and posted it on You-tube and Facebook. Made a half-assed camera car from a arch bar truck and mounted the camera to it on the front of the
Shay.
Turns out to be a great way to find problem areas.

Jon,

nice vid, but loose the juvenile on your next one, what happened to you rgs caboose?

You see Al, I had a really nice video all planned out. Mounted the camera to the cupola of the RGS caboose and fired up the live steam Shay to make the same circuit. Problem was I didn’t hit the start button properly and got no video; then I split a switch, derailed and had to shut down. Tried again after fixing the switch, but by then the engine did not want to pull the caboose up the grade :frowning:

Put the Shay to bed, then fired up the battery operated Porter. For some reason, the two flat + caboose consist that went up the hill with no problem on Saturday would not do it on Sunday. After much gnashing of teeth, trying many different things I finally decided that the caboose was the problem and dropped it on the main just prior to the beginning of the video. Right about then my 7 y.o. niece showed up. She’s the only one in the whole extended family that shows a real interest in trains, so I don’t discourage her. At the end of the video, I shove the caboose from the spot it was dropped, back to the yard.

Next time it will be live steam with the caboose along for the ride and no people of any description in the view. I need to loose the power sliders on the caboose and get the it rolling better. It only rolls about two feet with strong push on level track.

Nice video’s, Jon… Part 2 should be named ““Attack of the Giant Doll””…

looks like your neice was enjoying herself too…

Nice vids Jon. Looks like the realignment is running smooth

Nice Jon. I really liked watching the engine go up the grade. Looked cool doing it. I had the same problem making my video, the kids kept running across the tracks and their heads would pop into view. LOL I have to get up your way to run on your layout.

If you can ignore all the deferred maintenance on the back of the house, you're welcome any time. Railroad is in teh bset shape it has been in a few years right now.

Great vids Jon, don’t worry about the house maintenance, i thought that took a second seat to RR operations & maintenance.

This is for Al… What the video was supposed to look like. Sorry it’s only 2 seconds long :frowning:

Videos were fun Jon. The whole operation looks swell especially the first part of the first video where it looks like you’re headed down a track in “big trees country”.

I don’t think I could resist putting a couple loggers on one of them standing on boards with a very looong two man saw. But then that’s me, very strange sense of humor. hehehe! Really nice videos though. The RR looks great!

As to the “giants” in the scene you could always mask them by inserting a Fe-Fi-Fo-Fum every now and then.

Great videos Jon. Really enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys

Richard - I like your logger idea; I’ll have to remember it!

John video’s came out allright!
You do have to learn some were!
Keep them coming.
I like short ones …but maybe longer than 2 sec.!!
A video thats 2 to 3 min is big enough for me…
