Its an internet browser. A faster and more secure one than Internet Explorer. The latest version of IE has stolen a few features like tabbed browsing from Firefox. I'm still running version 2 until they work the bugs out of v.3. You can download it from www.mozilla.com (v.2 here - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html ) . You can import your bookmarks from IE and you can still keep IE around even run both at the same time. Chrome is also a new browser developed by Google.
