Large Scale Central

Fire House

The windows are glazed with acrylic. I leave the protective coating on the opposite side so when I glue it in I don’t get the glue all over the window. (At least that’s the theory. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))

I’m using E-6000 and feel it’s good to let it dry for a day or two before I glue the assembly in place. Every window will be inserted from behind.

When I was trying to figure out how to build this, I decided to make the tower removable - so I could add in the windows after I had completed the brick treatment. The tower is held in place with screws until final assembly - then I’ll also use some more E-6000.

Inside, I decided to reinforce the walls with some aluminum angle - it was glued and screwed in place before I put the brick on.

Now to finish glazing all those windows. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Why does it look like there was a fire inside the firehouse?

Hehe. Those guys smoke in there? (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)Anyway, I was trying to mute all the white, just in case it shows through all those windows. I’ve already made some floor pieces to help reinforce things; I may also put in some dividers to keep the light from shining all the way through.

Are you going to but an interior , like beds and a pole?

No interior at all. It’s typically not visible. I did sort of an interior on Strong Groceries, but it’s very difficult to see, even with the large display window.

Now if it had electric lights that would be a different story.

Coming along nicely

No electric lights? Must be very early 20th century or late 19th century in your town.

No, it just means I have not put lights in any of my buildings.

So…All your townspeople go to sleep when the sun goes down?

Whatever. You win.

I left the blue plastic on one side of the glass when I installed it into my SD70ACe engine. The glue still got on the glass and the plastic stuck to my fingers!

It sounds good in theory though! Some tips need practice I guess?

Bruce, I didn’t know this was a contest. But model towns look so cool at twilight with lights in some of the windows.

I haven’t taken all the plastic off, but I have removed it from the tower and the front window. So far so good.

Have to glue in the back door assembly; then I’ll remove all the plastic and add my reinforcing floor and maybe some visual blocks. Then the roof.

I’ve got a gray piece of PVC (pictured) that I’ll use for the base.

Bruce,

you will have a big problem with future buildings…

… they all need to be superb, for not to look shabby near this firehouse.

And the upside down version.

I put it on its roof to glue the corbels in place. (Or whatever they are called.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))

Next up, I’ll paint the trim.

Whoa, vertigo!

It even looks good upside down…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Is that from Australia?

I agree with Korm,

You have set the bar pretty high for yourself.

This is looking great! It’ll be really beautiful when it’s done.
