Large Scale Central

Financially investing in the railroads

So I’m just curious if anyone else is “directly” invested in the railroads whether the big ones or the shortlines?

Our fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers did such. I personally have and have passed on my thoughts to friends who did such and so far they have proven pretty solid.

So without getting political just wondering if any of the LSC’ers are invested and it can be as simple as a yes or no.

Rooster;

Yes, Norfolk Southern, probably will be converted to UP stock once the merger completes.

Yes, Ive done KCS, RailAmerica, BNSF, and Wisconsin Central, only one is left and all of them placed a coin or two in my coin pocket clamshell

i have only invested into the Southern & Gulf R. R.

Does my 41 cents of BNSF employee 401K matching at .005% count? I think I’m up to almost 5 while dollars now.

Yes that’s the correct decimal point. Not sure what it is now, but when I worked for BetterNotStartaFamily it was a big deal when us engineers got “profit sharing” and 401k matching.

I’ve only invested in the DÜRR (and the cost to add umlauts is killing me)!

Absolutely Craig, Because the general public cannot buy into it as Warren owns about 77%.

Dave,
I actually have both and if the deal goes through right now it would be a great win for NS share holders. If NS surpasses the $320 mark before then, not so much. It kinda leaves me in a pickle with the merger as I would have more shares in one single stock than I prefer. I’m also not sure how it would affect the merchants/shippers as that would be one huge monopoly.
I also recently grabbed some CNI shares as it was way to low not too.

I have some old stock certificates from the D&RGW.
Does that count?

It’s not a shareholder stock (although I could have bought some when I worked for BNSF).

Rather it’s 41¢ of money BNSF paid out and put into my Vanguard account. Now you got me curious about my 401k statement to see if my initial 41¢ estimate was right. It might have been lower.

Sure but I know darn well it was you that cashed them out.
