Large Scale Central

Finally finished my Mallet!

And it even comes with a bedtime story! http://www.the-ashpit.com/mik/mallet.htm

That’s one fine looking loco…and a neat story, too!

A truly unusual conversion Mik. Looking at the handsome lines of the prototype I can easily see how it inspired you. Great work.

Mik,
Nice job. I’d completely forgotten about this project.
Nice to see you finished it.
Ralph

I thought I’d been working on it for less than a year… but it seems I started on this last APRIL----- Like the frog said, “Time sure is fun when you’re having flies!”

Today it goes outside – for a light weathering, then a run in the sun.

Pretty Cool!

Mik,

did you make the two bricks rigid or movable one against each other?

Nice cant wait to see it running

OK, more pix. It was nasty hot 'n sticky, so I didn’t feel like carrying a whole lot out, so you’ll have to settle for a caboose hop.

I do need to get a bit more weight on the pony truck, since it tends to float a bit - and perhaps oval the mounting hole to allow it to twist as well. Korm, this shows how the motor blocks are articulated.

Is that a convertable too Mik?

I haven’t put the screws in yet. I’m trying to decide whether to put a couple flat plates under the roof to add another 4-5 oz

The railroad and the Mallet are looking great.

The RR is growing weeds. Too much rain. Hopefully, I can talk Kimmee out of $25 or so for ballast and more mulch… I’m not holding my breath on more rocks or groundcover.

Some kid came to the door today and asked if I would GIVE him several pieces of the scenery (cars, figures). I asked him what I would put out in their places… He acted sad. Hope he doesn’t decide they need liberated.

interesting. - i’ll have to torture my brain a bit to find out, why you coose these two points for the articulation.

Because that was the 'proper' point for the front set to swing in a prototypical manner, and I wanted the bridge to be long for stability's sake. Might have been better for tracking with the pivot centered between the axles, at least on the rear brick.

And yes, I put the roof screws in about an hour ago - no more convertible top.
