all across the country, plus links to other great films.
neat thanks Steve
I remember watching this film in 5th grade science class. I understood it then, and I still understand it. I guess I didn’t loose too many brain cells in the 60’s.
Okay I’m curious. ???What is the steam coming out of the rear of the tender about 1:05 minute into the film???
Thanks for posting. Great old time railroad like it was when I first started LOVING railroads !
Wow, great film! Very interesting and informative, with plenty of cool steam loco footage.

Where? Oh, I was looking at the wrong film. I think that’s a heater to keep the heavy fuel oil in the tender flowing. Ah, train porn

I wish I could remember mainline steam. I was a kid in the waning years, probably about 5 when the lines that ran through my town dieselized. My dad was into new technology - he was the first in the neighborhood to own a TV. He would take me to the airport to watch the “new” jet airliners take off and land, but we never went to watch the last steam trains. That’s funny to me because he lamented the loss of street cars, and rode every line in Buffalo numerous times in the week before they quit.
Steam was around my first 10 years, but Dad was much like yours Jon, we went to see the jets and the great stuff at the airport. I really think a lot of them had enough of railroads in WWII.
…that steam exhaust on the tender could have been the exhaust from the stoker motor…
Very cool link Steve. Note there are a bunch of good videos on the page. Go to the POATH video-it lists that poster’s/organization’s three Youtube channels which are excellent. Check this one out- http://www.youtube.com/poatharchives#p/u/19/oyulmyICuHw
Its WWI narrow gauge in France, at about 2 minutes in you 'll see some unique “sectional” track. I found the backgrounds throughout as interesting as the great rr equipment in the video.
Again thanks Steve.
