Fill for holes and loss then perfect cuts

As I progress on the 4-6-0 conversion I had to cut the cab windows from small-large-small to 2 equal windows.

Well if you know me, I can’t cut a straight line. So little strays with the saw need to be filled. And the gap between the pillar top and bottom also.

I will need to cut the generator stand from the top of the boiler and move it back also leaving a 2/4 by 1 hole.

What is the preferred filler for small gaps and large holes?

I am struggling but making slow progress!

Squadron Green or white puttys do ok…squish in a little at a time and use a Qtip and nail polish remover to smooth it out…done right and very little sanding will be neccessary…

I’ve also used a two part putty called AVES…its a little more pricey but its magical stuff…

I’m partial to the BONDO Glazing and Spot Putty, mainly because it’s available everywhere; it doesn’t seem to dry up as fast as the Squadron tube…

Thanks Bart.

I’m with Bruce on the Bondo. It will shrink a bit when dry, but if you spread it thin it doesn’t crack. The other neat thing to do with Bondo is thin it with MEK. I normally have the MEK right next to me for ‘welding’ the plastic, so if I need a really thin coat of Bondo I use MEK and Bondo.

Thanks guys.
