Fall/Winter projects

Hi all,

Ah, the frost on the roofs, the nip in the air.

First Fall project: transfer all the railway VHS footage from as far back as 1989 to DVD format. That means plenty of editing to do in the winter. BTW I also intend to steal the sound for my ZIMO sound decoders, which means a lot more editing of sound … trim … slice … fade. Trim some more assemble, assemble, assemble!

PS Doing that gives me an appreciation why good sound modules are pricey.

What kind of program do you use to convert and edit ,Hans ?

Something called Ulead Media Studio Pro7.

PS and the audio with CoolEdit2000.

At the rate I’ve been going, I need to finish the fall/winter projects from two fall/winters ago.

Later,

K

Kevin,

At your stage of life, you are lucky you are that for along. The further you go the behinder you’ll git. But have faith, there is life after children, but you have to have them and raise them to enjoy it. Your doing well. You’re getting a trip to Orbisonia and that is a step in front of me and I can’t even tell you why.

Let’s see… finish the stuff I started 4 to 6 months ago…finish the stuff I started 2 months ago… finish the the stuff I started a month ago… finish… well, the stuff I started in the last week … well, yesterday…

You get the idea for my fall-winter-tommorow list…

I no longer worry about getting ahead, I’m trying to slow the rate of falling behind. :stuck_out_tongue:

My idea of long-term these days is 36 hours . . . .

5 + Hours recorded, 3 more to go for 1989.

Then on to all that good stuff from Oz in 1991.
That was some trip: fly to Sydney, take the Indian Pacific to Adelaide (Broken Hill route), then the Ghan to Alice. Fly to Darwin, then to Cairns. Ride the Kuranda railway, then the Sunlander to Brisbane. Oh yeah, in between we did all kinds of other neat stuff. If it would have been strictly trains I wouldn’t be here today.

HJ,
I rode the Kuranda Rail in 1956. Then it was a two-car diesel railcar. Memories of the Barron Falls lookout stop. I was aboard the railcar when the whistle sounded. My parents were still out on the lookout structure admiring the view of the Barron Falls. As a five year old I had visions of being abandoned by my parents as the real possibility (to me) of the train moving off and leaving my parents behind.

The railways of Australia are definately the equal of the great journeys of North america and Europe. These days however, basically everything is privatised and owned by North American companies.

Got my first fall project completed…I found the top of my work table… Now I will be able to get back to my winter modeling…

Congratulations (or as some say congradulations (sic), BTW I think those are the guys who have a spelchequer) looks pretty clean! I was doing some concrete sewer pipes in length up to four meters, the trick was to get the paint right.

Of course that is just for the occasions when someone look a bit closer. :stuck_out_tongue:

Concrete has been the hardest color to get right for me. I’ve got several “concrete” opjects and I’m not really satisfied with any. Small things seem to look ok, but if it’s a large concrete item then it sucks…:frowning: What did you use for your concrete??

Got Fall project #2 done today. Swapped out a 1600 turnout for an 1800. My RDC’s were complaining loudly about it. The 1600 was installed elsewhere giving me a new siding. Of course, this is all on my indoor layout.

Concrete:

Sand surface to get “grip”; spray with quickdry, sandable primer (gray). Let dry, then use same type of primer in white and spray from far enough away that it is just like overspray and almost dry when it hits the object. Light finger on the nozzle of the spray can!

Concrete is always an interesting color. Currently trying a latex paint mixed at the local hardware/lumber company. The color is actually called “concrete”. So far the results have been favorable. A light “concrete” color of grey is one of my basic layout colors. We also have a charcoal, coal and a dark burgundy all in quart mixes of exterior flat latex house paint. These are kept in plastic jars and used extensively on all parts of the layout inside and out. The other basic colors used and kept on hand at all times, in spray bombs, are flat black, and assorted primers in grey or red oxide.

Like maybe I should DUST the layout? Probably going to work on my bashed Aristo C-16, a little bit too. Don’t know why tho, it’s really too big to use on the current indoor pike. I’m finally supposed to have a cab coming for the Stainz bash I started a year ago too…now for a little ambition lol
