Fall Steam on the Essex Valley Railroad

Went on a very nice ride today in the fall foliage.

Hope the video works. I still learning.

Steve

That’s a nice train ride, we did the dinner train and the Steam train / river boat excursion last fall.

I took a video of it last month. looks exactly like the one I took. Maybe next time I will take a ride.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

What a great loco, and that whistle is awesome!

Yea Ray, when that whistle blows you can feel the vibration in your chest. I took the video in HD but when YouTube uploaded it from my i phone it set it to low resolution. I got to work on that.

Nice Steve! My friend Lee works at the Valley RR. He has posted a bunch of videos of the Valley RR and many others on YouTube as EBTMikado. It’s been too long since I’ve been there. I want to get down to see the New Haven 3025 run.

That whistle sound gives me, as the Hawaiians say, “Chicken skin.”

The whistle is a genuine New Haven 3-chime whistle from an old steamer. Great sound! It was added when they converted/americanized the Chinese 2-8-2. (You did realize that #40 is Chinese?)

@Pete - I think you have the #40 and the #3025 confused. 3025 was the Chinese engine that came from Knox & Kane after thier fire. Repaired and re-built to look like a New Haven loco.

Hi Pete, #40 is an American made locomotive manufactured by ALCO. That’s why I titled the video “GOOD OLD #40”. I was glad to see her running. Last year I was pulled by the 3025 which is the Chinese made loco which was Americanized by the folks at Essex to cover times when #40 and #97 are out of service for over haul. I still hope to see #97 pulling again but I think it will be awhile, it has been on static display for a few years now I believe.

Thanks

Steve

Yes, guys - I am confused. Been a couple of years since I was there.

You’re excused Pete (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
