Fall Hiking

Fall the season is the start of my hiking season. Cooler days, no bugs and less people on the trails. The fall colors are getting close to peak out this way. Another week and we will be at peak season. Not the best season for colors, the heavy rains and winds really did a number this year. I did manage to get some pictures although by the time I gto to the ridge top the sun was to bright for good pictures of the colors. All the pictures are from Stokes SF about a few miles from my house.

Porcupines love to eat the white paint on the trail markers. Something in the paint they like. They also love to eat sweaty boots.

Sunrise Mountain. Past peak on top of Mt.

Too much sun kills the colors in the photo.

This is what the colors look like on an average year.

It’s startin down in this neck of the woods, too…

Nice Pix…

I used to hike miles in the mountains of Wash/Idaho and now my

Enjoy it while you can, Shawn.

That would make a great overnight destination for snowshoes/cross country skis in winter. Does it snow much in your neck of the woods?

Steve we have a few shelters like that in the State Forest. Cross country skiing is great. We average about 65 inches of snow a year. Before kids we use to ski to the shelters and sleep out. Now I just do it as a day trip. The one below I do on a regular basis. Its about a 6 mile loop and the shelters sits at the halfway point. Great place for lunch. This is from last year early in the season.

Come on up. Your always welcome. Its nice country out here and the best part is everyone thinks its all city so they dont come out this way. NJ's best kept secrete. So far Jon is the only one to visit the KMRR. Its open to all. Also Keep the Scranton Steam up in mind. I think its presidents day weekend. Let me know when you want to play.

Believe it or not, there is actually a pretty good hiking area around the corner from my house. I used to do a lot of hiking and backpacking. Now, it is rare.
