Fall and winter chores

We got a forecast of snow this weekend, at higher elevations, So it must be close to Fall. I spent too much money this last year on the railroad, to be able to buy plants for the end of this year, so my work on the railroad plants will be trimming and cleaning up what I have. Maybe a good thing.

I have found that the leaves like to collect aganst the base of the Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees, sometimes clogging the rails with debri. So I am going to trim all the lowest branches off, up about 4 to 6 inches, Depending on how tall the tree is. I’m hoping this will let the winds blow the leaves past the trees and off the railroad some. I may spend some time thinning some of the upper branches too. This trimming will also make the Spruce look more like a Pine or Cedar.
