Fairfax County Virginia - Donation?

I have been approached by the owner of The Woodlands Retirement Community in Fairfax County. He has made an offer to donate space for a permanent railroad. There will be plenty of FREE parking available as they are just now building a new 42 space parking lot. He even offered the possibility of a shed for storage.

My first thought was to contact the local club - The Washington, Virginia & Maryland Garden Railway club, but they are not interested in a permanent location, especially since they have members all across the area.

I know there are a number of folks on here that live in Fairfax County and I’m hoping that at least one of them will know somebody else who might be interested - or perhaps just might be interested to take on a new project!

If so, please let me know, either through this forum or my email which is bdc at the great railroad site known as jbrr.com.

Or, if anyone else has any ideas, I’m ready to listen!

Any ideas?

Just a thought Bruce, but maybe he should contact some of the residents there see if any of them are interested. I know where my son works at Jenners Pond, they have woodworking groups, landscaping groups, metal working groups, quilting groups and a few others. One guy even grows orchids in his basement. Or you could move in and start a model railroad group…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I think that there are way too many folks that are awake in that picture for it to be a realistic depiction! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

If I were younger, I’d just take him up on his offer…but I’m too close to being committed to commit myself to this task…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

Bruce, what? You don’t want to go out with a bang?

Just donate your railroad so it can be set up by the time you move in… maybe you can get a room with a window overlooking your former empire…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I thought that was you in the foreground? Ken might be up to it though as he’s gonna outlive Keith Richards, Ozzy Osborne and the cockroaches at your nursing home.

Following with interest! And as a WVMGRS member, I can vouch that it would be very difficult for us to maintain a permanent layout. Those of us that have home layouts spend enough time and effort and money on upkeep.

It would be neat to have a halfway close (1 hr. away) layout to see/run on from time to time. Although I am already very involved with the Woodland Railway.
