FA1 or RS3 Sideframes

Has anyone attempted to build the FA1 sideframe out of styrene?

I just inherited an FA1 and FB1 body, no guts, no motor block, and want to cosmetically restore them as dummies to pull behind my functional FA1, but need to manufacture the trucks, and wondered if anybody has done that before?

Of course, if someone has those sideframes in their junkbox, I’d be interested in that, too.

There on e-bay all the time and cheap.

I looked. nothing there. Keep an eye out for me.

I started to build some for static locos (ALCO Rs-36 low short nose), gave up after doing 1 side of 1 truck

Steve,

Going back about 17 years, I bought two FA’s and an FB for $120. slightly used. The FB had no motor blocks so I ended up putting a set of freight car wheels in the trucks as a dummy. I know the newer aristo trucks have axels that do not extend to the sideframes, but the older black box and blue box aristos with the original trucks (power pickups through the sideframes) can easily be used to make dummy trucks. Again, they can be found on ebay, just try to check that they are the older type.
