I was looking for a DCC System for my L RR. I saw the New Bachmann E-Z Command DYNAMIS sys
Bachmann claims Dynamis can be used with model trains of any scale with addition of 5 amp booster for large scale.
Runs NMRA DCC decoder filtered trains only.
40 locomotive roster database. can run consists.
Has wireless hand set LCD read out.
This is all Greek to me.
Has anyone used this system
Is this a good system for a beginner?
I’m still setting up my track. I still hahe time to decide What I want to use.

Whilst the system may be adequate for Large Scale trains you definitely could not use it outdoors during the day. Indoors, no problem.
They use an Infra Red control medium. Infra Red does not like competing with that big IR emitter in the sky.
HJ Mueller, Tony Walsham and Greg Elmassian have a lot of experience with DCC. I suggest that you contact them, as their expertise is well worth the effort. Just ask them. (Just kidding.) Give either a shout, or all three. You will learn a lot, then you can come back here and teach us.
Still sticking to that “L” RR, huh?
Tony has properly identified the biggest “red X”… you just cannot use it outside unless it is dark!
You also need to be aware that different scales use different DCC track voltages, so it’s not just a matter of amps. You really will need about 20-22 volts on the rails be be sure all your locos will perform.
For example, HO people often use 18v on the rails. Now that may sound weird, since they are set for 12v on DC, but there are extra “voltage drops” from the decoder since it is between the rails and the motor.
You might want to read my site, I list several DCC systems. My opinion, is that, unless you have very few locos, the extra cost to go from an “entry level” and limited DCC system, to one of the top level, fully featured, unlimited systems is only $200 or so. Since it’s a one time investment, and is used by every loco you have, I suggest looking at things like Digitrax, NCE, Massoth, Zimo, not necessarily in that order, but look at them.
Also, I always recommend systems around 10 amps. It’s surprising how easily you can get to 5 amps. I ran a 10 amp train the other day, the locomotives used 4 amps, the lighted passenger cars used 6 !
Regards, Greg
I’m going to use this indoors on my elevated rail line.
My roster is Bachmann Spectrum 50 ton Shay DCC,DC sys. 2-6-0 Bachmann DC., Pico NYC Saddle tank 0-6-0 DC, LGB 2-4-0 Pennsy starter Passenger set. DC
That is what I will run inside. I have a B&O streamline passenger 2-8-4 That I run out side only. It is too large and heavy to run overhead. The engine tender and 4 cars is over 13 ft long. Too big for the tight turns inside 4 and 5 ft radius turns.
I have to equip all of my locos for DCC except the Shay.

Ahh, a trick question… large scale indoors, who would’a thunk?
Well, you choice of systems is broader. I don’t personally like the controller layout or feel. I don’t recommend 5 amp systems for large scale.
Why not google it and read all the reviews. I just did and the first review I found had a lot more dislikes than likes.
Greg
The most important aspect of a system is the look and feel of the throttle and how it works.
The amperage is really not a discriminator. Why? The user interface is what you will be dealing with all the time. If you like how trains are operated using the Dynamis then go for it. If the interface is not confortable or logical for you then stay away from it.
As for amperage ALL systems use power stations and you can purchase the desired amperage for your needs and expand as your needs expand. You can mix and match power stations (boosters) within the type of family of the system you purchase. With your limited needs a 5+ amp power station (the Bachmann one is exceeds its specs) will work fine. A 10 amp unit is likely better in the long term and will hold the output voltage at the desired level a longer time.
Before you purchase any system try it out. Most major train shows have a few manufacturers in attendance that will let you try out their system.
For an elevated layout using brass track and the locomotives you mention I would recommend Lenz gold maxi decoders using a backup power module, which will eliminate the need for you to worrk about track or wheel cleaning.
Hope that helps.
