Exporting Bio Diesel

I found this while reading about Hurricane Ike.

“Along the Houston Ship Channel, a tanker truck floating in 12-feet-high flood waters slammed into a storage tank at the largest biodiesel refinery in the country, causing a leak of roughly 2,100 gallons of vegetable oil. The plant, owned by GreenHunter Energy Inc., uses chicken fat and beef tallow to make biodiesel shipped overseas. It opened just months earlier.”

I am usually in favor of exports, considering our trade deficits. But why are we exporting Bio Diesel that could be used here to help reduce the amount of oil we import ?

I dunno, maybe folks here don’t want their diesel trucks smelling like a cross between a KFC and McDonalds?

If you put a drop of chicken fat into a gallon of petrol-diesel, it becomes an alternative fuel, taxed at a much lower rate by the EU, and that can be sold at a higher price. That’s why.

Folks here and in the EU are working to close this loophole.

In addition, the U.S. gets dollars from all exports. These days, that is almost as important as the costs of the oil imports.

I, like many don’t currently have a road vehicle that burns diesel. My B7100 Kubota tractor does use diesel, but I won’t risk putting anything except the real stuff in it. Especially since I only use about 30 gallons of diesel per year. All the bio-diesel in the world doesn’t directly benefit me.

Would you like Fries with that?  It will be even better when they start recycling that stuff from the Fish and Chip stores on a commercial basis.

Looks to me like Bio Diesel is on the way out… Plant closings all over the country… To much of a good thing, may be!!

LQQks like EVERYTHING closing around this country…aaaakkkkk
