Decisions, decisions. Lately I have a hard time making them. I’m ready to put the track and industry locations in JMRI Operations. Trying to decide if this should be additional track in “South Willow Hill” or if it should be a new town “West Willow Hill”. It’s not far enough away to name it as a different town.
… just thinking, that you wanted to squeeze this project into the time frame of the “challenge”…
but don’t get hasty!
Hell, Jon, I’ve been obsessed with tr… never mind … this is a train forum not a…
woodworking forum (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)Didn’t see that one coming now did ya (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Jon, doesn’t need to be far away, just has to across the border line from each other… Both could be on the outskirts of each town, hence different towns… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

That pretty much follows what I’ve done before. There is a physical barrier - Box Tunnel seperating the two locations, so West Willow Hill it is. Got it into JMRI and added to a few trains. Ran two Southbound trains last night to fill in the spots. Just realized as I operated for the first time that these are all facing point moves! Good thing there is a run-around back in Willow Hill.
Guess I need to update and post the Schematic again. as Ric would say - the pressure is overwhelming.

You need a catchy name for that tunnel like Rooster gulch , or the Black hole of *** , State of confusion, Devon’s wound…
Sean - I am done allowing you to put bad ideas into my head!!! The sign has been hung. The Control Point is BOX. What you want to call the tunnel if you come down to operate is up to you.
I may not make it to Bobs this year. Am toying with the idea of an open house the following Monday for those close and on their way West. No plan yet - and need to get it by the boss as the kids and grand kids will be here. She already shot down my idea of sending the parent kids off on a kid-less weekend and us bringing the grand kids to Bob’s. I thought that was a brilliant idea, but I wouldn’t be the one being caretaker (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
Jon,
Back to the picture …I have seen quite a few (a lot) of “old school” images of the Frick facility and perhaps you could blend one into your current pic which looks a lot like it in many aspects. Just thinking and trying to help…The CVRR did service that plant so I’m biased that way…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Might be a good place to look instead of getting lost on Shorpy …I blocked Shorpy but have peeked now and then.
Jon if you could find a close-up of a similar building , and mounted / cropped the edge of the building and laid it out to cover the left edge of this pic
I’m thinking it would give the impression of wow look what’s around the corner . The corner of the building would hide the edge of the pic that you already have…
It might even give you a store front or another loading dock and a reason to have a car there …
I really need to brush up on my Photoshop skills. I started messing with that picture last weekend, but was quickly frustrated by my lack of knowledge in PS. My attempt was to try and extend the roof line back down the left side, then tack on a mirror image which makes it look like a corner shot. If that idea continues to fail; I have another nice picture of a Cadillac factory. I would just put a small black divider bar between the shots as there is no way to blend them. I will look at your idea to see if I can make the Cadillac factory look close and allow it to blocking the missing corner of the Westinghouse building.

Do you have a link to share or can you email me something?
Need to take a break?

Jon,
Good Lord somewhere …I’m always digging into history…Might be in Penn States archives but I know I just saw a lot of the Frick plant a few months ago…Library of Congress maybe …we’ll talk at York .

Just one of the links I had on hand Jon…I will have to dig but you can as well. There were (still are) numerous buildings on that property that you might be able to blend into your overall evil plan …besides it’s Frick …"What the Frick "

Jon I cannot find facility pics currently but perhaps you can… sorry …
And then here is a car load you might think about

Hmmm I wonder if this will have some new stuff soon …
I’ll have to admit; once track was down I began spending more time playing than working. I got the new tracks into JMRI and have been playing around with ops. Working South Willow Hill has totally changed with the mainline extension and the two facing point industries at the terminus pose a new challenge. Here is the updated schematic…
Since the East Coast show I have been busy readying some new rolling stock for service. With new industries comes the need for more cars. I got a great deal from David Maynard on some slightly damaged Delton Classic Coal Hoppers. Am working on body mounts and metal wheels for them. Will post how I done it when it’s done.

Wonder if that hound in the cab door howls with the locomotive whistle?
Would be a fun effect to do in DCC sound.
Body mounting couplers on a Delton Classic Wood Hopper.
There is not enough meat here to start a thread. Since it’s related I’ll drop it here. I picked up a pair of slightly damaged Delton Classic Hoppers from David Maynard at the Drag & Brag for a really nice price. I still have a few NIB, but can always use more. These 1:24 cars scale out pretty close to 1:20.3 and are very similar to wood cars run by the EBT. Kevin Strong and I discussed years ago how they could be changed to be more correct to EBT cars. He did some mods while I watched and drooled. So far all of mine are still stock.
To run these with my Fn3 equipment they need body mounted couplers. I’ve done this before on Delton Classic cars, so I had a clue where to start. A couple of thicknesses of styrene, one .125" and another .040" were welded to together with Weldon 16 then wrapped in matte black vinyl. It’s too cold still to paint and the vinyl doesn’t need dry time. The styrene pad was then glued to the car frame with Weldon 16…
Next a Kaydee style draft gear box that may have come from a Bachman Spectrum hopper is attached with a sheet metal screw through the pad. And yes - I know the coupler is upside down. I figured that out when I went to test the car! I am slowly switching over to Bachman couplers. I like the look of the Accucraft that I have been running, but the pins get rusty and don’t like to drop. Bachman couplers will mate with Accucraft if the Bachman is left closed when coupling. I looked at the new Kaydees, but Ric’s report of problems uncoupling made me reconsider. Coupler attached…
The height works out to be about perfect. I didn’t check with my home made gauge, but it lines up perfectly with Olde #3. Some weathered trucks with metal wheels and we are almost ready to roll…
My next task was to modify the identical car numbers using a trick Ric taught me - Remove the first number from one, and the last number from the other. I tried Alcohol on a Q-tip but neither the car lettering nor the paint even flinched. I may just paint it over like an intentional patch.
