Ex servicemen , you now know what we are or were

Why the surprise and outrage that someone supposedly in authority lets slip the truth about what they think of servicemen ?
You may be interested to know that in my Country , we are classed along with "Gypsies , Tinkers , and Itinerants "
Or put it another way , not even citizens , let alone second class .
Illegal immigrants to this country have more rights than a serviceman .
So let’s stop pretending , all us service blokes is thick . Now , let’s get on with life as vermin and be content .

Mike------------------ ex professional defender of the realm for half a lifetime , and proud of it .

If you are referring to John Kerry’s remark…his only problem was that he can’t read his own script writers script. It was totally a slip of reading the script. He didn’t say what was there. I’m sure that if you ever have given more than one speech you have stumbled on your notes some place. He just blew it at the wrong time and the Republicans are trying to make a case of it because they have no worthy platform to stand on…thanks to Dubya. The crazy part about the whole thing is that John Kerry isn’t running for anything…:confused:

On a more positive note, I don’t feel that way about being a veteran. I can hold my head high as I have served my country…and proud to have done so…even if it was during Viet Nam. Personally, I don’t think a person should be allowed to vote or hold office unless they have served their country in some capacity. Unfortunately, the powers to be in DC have not asked my opinion…:frowning:

I guess Jon Carry has misread his sript many times over his career, beginning with the "Winter Soldier" thing back in '71, when he began his political career by smearing the soldiers of his generation, calling them baby killers "reminiscent of Gengis Kahn."

Sorry, Warren, but you can’t spin this one. Just like Mel Gibson let slip his true feelings about an ethinc group, Jon Carry let slip out his true feelings about us dolts who serve(d) in the military.

Mike, didn’t Rudyard Kipling write a poem about the civilian’s feelings about us called “Tommy?”

Yup. For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!" But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;

Many Canadians have the vapours when their soldiers pull a trigger. There is “a tradition of peacekeeping” (all of 40 years old), which largely consisted of sending under-equipped troops all over the place and hoping nobody would be nasty to them.
(Truth in advertising: I didn’t serve in the military. which is probably a good thing for the military.)

Here Mike…just for you…! :smiley: I know a lot of people have seen this here in the US. It’s all over the news and the internet but those that haven’t…

I will refrain from further comment as the photo speaks for itself.

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o’beer,
The publican ‘e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.”

Since we all know what a Republican is, I guess a “publican” is the opposition.

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. I’ll go to my room, now.

Just a bit more…

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap;
An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.

For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of 'is country,” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
But Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

Yes, we do see.

OK, I’ve said my piece, or rather, Mr. Kipling did it for me.

Oh dear, There’s something about a militia service: You get to go if you’re dumb enough or not. :wink: :slight_smile:

Well, I certainly qualify as dumb enough!. I did it for 22 years, in two branches of the Naval service. I finally decided that I didn’t want to make it my career. :smiley: I hung around for so long because I just wanted to see what silly thing they were going to come up with next! LOL

Thanks for the reply , Richard , quite delightful to see that the professional soldiers still know how to treat crappy politicians .
And of course , the very telling Kipling quotes .
'Twas ever thus , and probably will never change .
I have had the dubious honour of direct contact with politicians whilst in the RAF , and I was totally underwhelmed .
One absolute twit asked to speak to "whoever is in charge " on an RAF aircraft . When I said he was flying the aircraft , I was told that it was not a very convenient arrangement , they actually thought that we had drivers to do that .
Gawd 'elp us .

Tempest in a Teacup fer christ sakes! The guy flubbed a Bush joke…BADLY, I understood it, but it was very easy to “not get it” Should never have hired Borat as his jokewriter. What would he have to gain by insulting the troops? Nothing! What does he gain insulting the President? a hellova lot more hutzva than insulting the troops. He’s a sharp guy, but he CAN’T TELL A JOKE to save his mother. This was proved over and over again in 2004 (of course no one remembers that, it was 2 years ago !!!) He apologized to the troops …should be end of story… Yeah right, that dam “liberal media” (owned by bleedeing heart’s like Rupert Murdock) just wont let go of it…too juicy to drop that red meat. I’d like to put Kerry’s combat military record up against Bush’s, Rumsfields, or Cheney’s…but of course, they dont have one…just a bunch of chicken hawks, easy to squack, cackle and crow and send someone elses kid off to war when you’ve never been their yourself. Well lets see Bush send one of his daughters over there. I dont see any kids of the political or economic elite in this country signing up, their too busy getting high on Ecstacy and trying to party-hearty with Paris Hilton. (Now theres someone who should be dumped in a combat zone, wouldn’t that be an awesome “Simple Life” episode!, “Hi, I’m in Darfor and theirs some hottie guys on horseback riding into the village, why is everyone else running away? maybe they’re just here to party with me, thats hot”) Kerry should just stay the hell out of the public eye for the next week and just let it blow by and take whatever political licks he’ll going get over it, I doubt he’ll lay low, like all politicians theres that ego thing. At least he’s not running for office (shades of Howard Dean’s Rodan birdcall). However, NOBODY is going to change their vote over this particular tempest in a teacup. Everyones mind is been made up along time ago and even if John Q Public is mad at Kerry, their mad at HIM only, he shot his own foot all by by himself fair and square, no one helped him or helped covered it up, unlike that Florida issue, and the voters will not magicly change their minds over the war policy or over the other issues this election, no matter how much Bush tries to spin this…and Oh, how they are spinning this! Like a gas turbine jet on full afterburner ! One question still on my mind if we’re talking politics… where’s Osama? Oh thats right, 5 years on and they can’t catch him, too convenient a “boogieman” to scare the voters with? Better scarecrow than the Commies. Besides Bush had to go after that other guy who “went after my daddy”

Maybe a first here…lets see if this topic gets so hot, it nukes!

Bart,

Get the fire truck! Methinks we have a bit of a blaze going here! :wink:

As we used to say in college when criticing a collegue’s project… We’ll there’s nothing wrong here that can’t be solved with a little lighter fluid and a match…

Ah yes! Rabid rhetorical violence beats meaningful dialogue every time.

IF , if the thread is not hijacked , then there will be no need for flamers , all I said was we service and ex service blokes now know we are rubbish
and must learn to accept it .
Nobody else bothers too much about ex service or current service blokes , so what’s the big deal ? We know what we are worth , it has been plainly put by the powers that would be , and the slander will only be used for political gain , it certainly won’t be used to try to persuade the public that we all owe our servicemen and ladies more than they get . After all , if the services get the status they deserve , it costs money to pay them .
Nah , Kipling was right .
Send a gunboat .

Judging from the way alot of vets have been treated by the VA here, sadly I tend to agree with you.

Aaaaaah!!! Politics.

…and just when I thought we had all grown up.

Sad to say it was another Brit who raised this latest piece of BS.

Vic,

It all boils down to a professional troika.

The oldest profession, followed by the second oldest profession (politicians - label may differ) and the third oldest profession (soldiers - label may differ).

Watch any conflict and the troika will be there! The problem is that never mind what, the third oldest profession will get sc…ed by either the oldest or the second oldest or most likely both. And the dance continuous. :frowning: :wink:

Yep, that’s where the dumb part comes in!

PS Of course that is strictly my opinion!

PPS Yes Tony, it’s time to duck out of this one!

I’m just waiting for a Commander-in-Chief to sell tags…and one day a year you can take out the liberal infestation in your neighborhood.

I’d drive all over town with one tied across the hood of my old US MADE pickup truck.

Jon Carry appologised? Hmmm, guess i missed that, Vic. Oh, you must mean whe he had his webmaster put something at the bottom of his web page. Sort of like the New York Slimes retracting something on the bottom of the classifieds. When he gets up in front of the camera and appologises, then I’ll take his measure. His last words were, “I will appologise to no one.”

And don’t get me started on his “war record.”

TOC, they’ll probably get you for “Discharging a firearm within the city limits.”

Not if the White House issues a tag…

BTW, I saw on a veteran’s forum that the liberals tried to claim that photo of soldiers holding up the sign was photoshopped in Texea.

The Command in Iraq has stated it was taken there, and those soldiers did it.
