Ever Write an Unpublished Article for Garden Railways Magazine?

Last month I received an email from Rene Schweitzer of Kalmbach. She said that she was going through the archives and came across an article I had written in 2016 that was never published and asked if they could use it for the December issue at the Trains.com website (with payment to me). Of course I accepted and intercepted the article before it was to be published in the GRNews newsletter, which at some point in the future will accept “direct-submitted” articles. Rene also asked if I had submitted any other articles that went unpublished at the time.

The jist of this is that if you had submitted an article to Garden Railways Magazine that was never published, you may want to get hold of Rene and reminded her of this.

I did about 40 I would say and had 2 published, though it was great, BB

I had two articles pending with Garden Railways. Maybe they will use mine at some point.

Do they pay the same?

edited for my mistake… never mind , maybe I will just add to my post count

Not as well, and Rene said it wouldn’t be. They sent me $25. Didn’t they used to pay us like $50 or $100 for the one-page builds? It’s been a while since I’ve done one.

I remember that I received $770 when I won the competition for garden railroads that primarily run diesels, was the featured article with the center spread, and the cover shot. It all added up.

Maybe you need to remind Rene with an approximate date that Marc would have received some of your articles.

2016??? Not bad…I had an article I wrote in 2014 (Reefer-ing to the Prototype.) that didn’t appear until this year…and I can’t even begin to remember which articles that I have submitted, but not been published. Hmm, and my Matheson Textiles was built in 2007…wasn’t published until 2017. 10 Years!

Oh well - good thing I never counted on it for income! To me, it was just a pleasant surprise to get a copy of the magazine with one of my articles in it! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Agreed, it wasn’t about the money. OTOH, because I had submitted articles and was paid for them, and Kalmbach does a 1099 on what they send, I would write my subscription off of my taxes as a business deduction every year.

I don’t know how to write so I’m out.

As I said…
