Ever wondered where .....

Yes, I did wonder where the word “caboose” originated. Apparently it is a derivative of “Kabuse” the German word for the kitchen and/or a small dark storage area on ships.

And where do the Brownie points stem from? From the “Brown System of Discipline” devised by G.R Brown for the NYC. Merit points were awarded for exceptional deeds.

Nothing going on in the shop?

Hmm, the Wiki views-

Caboose

Brownie Points

Everybody’s got an opinion!

The book I was reading "Train Country - An illustrated history of Canadian National Railways"ISBN 1-55054-153-6 predates Wiki by a few years. Could also be that the author found those roots “clearly” railway related.
