Here is my number 1 favorite narrow gauge lok from Europe, HSB’s 996001.4. A one off prototype delivered to the DR right as Europe fell into WWII. Had the war not happened or been delayed a few years, there would have probably have been a whole bunch of these little fat boilered 2-6-2t’s running on the HSB instead of the 2-10-2T. Mike
What gauage is it ? I like the looks of it.
1000mm gauge. Still in full operation in the Harz mountains of Germany. The age of steam has never ended on the Harz. The website for the railway, while in German, has several webcams that can be viewed by everyone. The pic above is the prototype for LGB’s original 2080D and all that followed. The newer 23801/23802 are more true to prototype, espicaly in the side rods. This engine normaly runs the Selke valley line from what I have read, only coming on the line to the Brocken when chartered such as the LGB Club tours ect. Normal train I have seen her pull is 2-4 of the red/cream 4 axle coaches and the short all red 2 axle coach. Mike
Look also at the Harzquerbahn-Wernigerode Schmalspurbahn.
Also at the Rugen Island railway.
AND the Spreewald…
The TV series Esienbahn-Romantik has many hours of these lines in operation -all on Youtube these days.
