I have been busy building this project since thanksgiving because the due date is today! I am traveling with a freind down to Lebanon PA for the Cabin Fever Show. Maybe I’ll see you there!
I had purchased a Graham two cylinder engine some years ago and had a custom hull kit laser cut to match. You might have guessed this is not zactly railroad stuff but it is in the neigborhood…It is 7/8" scale and may haul around the odd bit of rail equipment on occasion, we’ll see!

I also did a little challenge with the seven eighth scale folks…build something with “lolly sticks” Which I read to mean craft sticks:
I started with three packages of sticks; one of coffee stirrers, one of popsicle sticks, and one of tongue depressors.
I made a floor of tongue depressors and added wall framing of coffee stirrers. these are industrial strength coffee stirrers for Navy Style coffee, about 1/16"x 1/4" wich seem about right for 7/8th scale studs.
I sheathed the building with tongue depressor clapboards, added a roof with curved rafters sawn from tongue depressors and sheathed with popsicle sticks…I ran out of tongue depressors ( well I think I have one left) I used some shingles left over from my tin roof Challenge Project for the roof and some windows left over from an old house project that I molded myself. Except for the rafters and some other tricky parts, I cut the sticks with scissors and metal shears. makes things happen fast, so I had a couple of days of good fun!

another project I have been working on while you guys have been challenged is to measure and draw accurate drawings of the S. D. Warren engine at the Boothbay Railway. here is the profile drawing I worked up…actual full size dimensions in inches…it is just a little guy. I plan to build a live steam model from scratch along with my CNC machinist friend so we will each have one.

And here I thought that 315 was a small engine… Well she is compared to a K36…
We (315 ) was double heading with a K36, and we were in the lead. when we looked down the side of the tender, we could see all of the 36’s cylinder protruding out beyond the sides of our tender, It was a bit intimidating seeing that beast right on our ass…
This would look small next to almost anything…ill bet it would fit inside a Big Boy’s firebox with room to spare. Even next to our Maine two footers it will look small.
Are you going to build all by scratch or use a ruby as you did before ?

I am going scratch this time. the Ruby that I built is really too small if you can believe it…Emma is closer though the boiler is too big and too high. This is for the fun of building and learning. I am planning waterjet cut copper for the boiler (working with a friend, we will probably build at least two)
