Large Scale Central

ER&I Heavy Flat

The ER&I purchased a brand new backhoe and needed a flat to move it where needed. The operator lifts the ramp and places it at the end of the car, then drives off and on. 1:20.3 standard gauge.

Nice looking flatcar John . Is the car scratch built or kitbashed ? What scale is that backhoe and where did you get it , nice.

Mike,

It is entirely scratch built. The hoe is 1:18. Close enough for 1:20.3. We can pretend it is a large hoe. Ebay was the source.

As always nice work John

Now you just need some dirt and grime on that backhoe. It’s just a bit too bright.

By the end of the year natural weathering will have it looking right.

My USA Trains tank cars, especially the white ones, are naturally weathered.

No paint. No fuss. No mistakes.

They look realistic, but could look like new with a cleaning if I decided to sell them.

The hoe is still brand new. I’m sure the MOW crew will mess it up pretty soon. The RR will use this flat to move some of its other equipment as well. And that stuff is beat to hell and rusted.

I am just waiting for Rooster to make some kind of “dirty hoe” comment.

Waiting… Waiting …Waiting

That is a great looking setup.

Looks great. I am a “weathering” guy. None of my stuff looks anywhere near clean, but, that being said, it looks right as is because the premise is that it is a new piece of equipment just received into road inventory. The contrast between the flat and the hoe is nice.
