When using a scanner/copier, what percent do you enlarge the HO plans to for 1/24 th … or 1/29th?..
For 1/29 use 300%
Travis
on the home page is the Scale Calculator if you go there you can scale up any size.
Richard
When you scale up the plans start with 300% and then take along your scale ruler. I’ve had to go both down and up % wise to get the drawing correct. By the time I break out the scale ruler for the 6th or 7th time to ask the copy center clerk to adjust the percentage by a 1% or .5% they give me a funny look. Also when you blow up HO plans, the clarity of the drawings aren’t as crisp, so I tend to kept a set of HO plans (and ruler) for measuring as well as a 1/29 set of plans and ruler. Despite all the trial and error copies I’m normally only charged for the one that I plan to keep.

87 / 29 = 3 (300%)
87 / 24 = 3.625 (362.5%)

A simple method to remember is this:
original scale divided by desired scale times 100 equals scaling percentage.
ie: from HO to 1:20.3 ~ 87 / 20.3 = 4.2857 and 4.2857 X 100 = 428.57%
from 1:24 to N scale ~ 24 / 160 = 0.15 and 0.15 X 100 = 15%
Hope this explains “How to Change Scales for Dummies”.
Actually Travis if you want to be close in 1:29 like stated 300% or take your measurement on the HO plans times 3. So if it’s 1" to something on the HO plans 3" will be pretty close to 1:29
If HO says it is 8 ft just measure 8 ft in your chosen scale, quite simple

Dennis, yes I agree.
I have never understood the desire or necessity to blow plans up in a copy machine.
As was stated earlier, I think, if you do blow them up the lines are so dang blurry you can’t get an accurate measurement anyway so what’s the point. Can someone explain it ???
Thanks to All. I have my own scanner copier so being charged a fee is not an issue the ink useage is the issue I just wanted to get it close to being right the first or second time. Thanks again for the help…
